UncategorizedFinding Style Fridays – Quirky Eclectic Chic January 31, 2014Happy Friday, y’all! While I loved doing “Our Renovation Story,” I’m so excited to be back to my usual blogging routine and this series! When I started Finding Style Fridays, my plan was to share style journeys. We’re all on a style journey to figure out exactly what we love and how to implement that in our home. We can learn from and be inspired by each other! I can’t tell you how excited I am to have my good friend, Julia, from Cuckoo 4 Design here today to talk about her awesome style. Julia is incredibly kind and has some major skills in the DIY and design arenas. And her description of her style, Quirky Eclectic Chic, could not be more spot on. So, welcome, Julia! *** Happy Friday everyone! I’m so happy to be here on Lindsay’s gorgeous blog today. Especially after having her on mine last week. Gracie is adorable, isn’t she? When Lindsay asked me to define my style for her Finding Style Fridays, I had to sit down and think for a minute. I have never really tried to label what I like and it was harder than I thought. In the past I have called my style “multiple personality decorating” 😉 since I like all kinds of different things. I know that a lot of people have the same problem and find it hard to incorporate all those different styles into their home. I always compare it to my interests in music. It’s all over the place as well and depends on what kind of mood I am in. Same situation when it comes to decorating my home. I have learned to go with the flow, follow my heart and as a result I get a home that makes me happy. The size of your home doesn’t matter, what matters is the items you fill it with. One thing I’m not is a minimalist. I love seeing minimalistic spaces in magazines but I know that it would be completely unrealistic for myself. So crossing that of the list helps me a lot 😉 So after thinking about a label for my style I will call it “Quirky Eclectic Chic”. Let me break it down for you. Quirky… …is all of the cheesy (how my brother would probably say) decor in my home. It is no secret how much I adore animals and it show in our home. The best examples are my animal anthropomorphic plates on our kitchen wall and my cuckoo clock collection. It is silly and makes me smile. And I recently painted a gold sparkly Cuckoo Clock for my daughter’s room: Eclectic… …is the summary for all my personalities (Do I need a psychiatrist?) and likes. I love antiques (and have many), midcentury modern, mixing metallics, modern furniture, color, pattern…YES bold patterns that is. Here are some examples for patterns in our home: My latest project, the hallway and closet makeover: My powder room makeover: Patterns and patterns, am I right? But I love it. Chic… …well I said to Lindsay that I kind of dislike calling my style chic because the word chic is in the eye of the beholder. And I don’t want to sound full of myself but lets just say it’s chic to me. And here is an example from my latest living room update: Can you guess who my idol is? If you guessed Jonathan Adler, then you are correct. Another reason why I like the word chic. Nothing is better than happy chic and that is what I want my home to be. So to sum it all up, I will stick with “Quirky Eclectic Chic”. Thanks so much for having me Lindsay it was fun and say hi to Gracie for me 😉

Beth of designPOST interiors says January 31, 2014 at 7:12 pm I’d say your description is spot on. I love all the fun touches in your house but I think my favorite might be that polka dot ceiling. You prove once again that if you pick what you love then your house will look great! Reply
