Home DecorRevisiting the Master Bath Design July 10, 2015First off, thank you guys so much for your AMAZING feedback on yesterday’s post. You guys brought up great points and are giving us a lot to consider. We’re going to wait until a little further in the process to make our final decision, but you know I’ll share it here when we do. Since yesterday’s post and feedback went so well, I’m bringing you guys another dilemma today. This one is time sensitive and I need a decision asap! I’m starting to gather materials for the addition and am revisiting the master bath design. The amazing printed tile that inspired the original design was out of stock recently and I panicked. I love this design so much! I looked around for an alternative and came up with a new design that I liked and was moving forward. Of course, now that it’s time to order it, both tiles are available. And now I can’t decide which design I like better! I asked Chris’ opinion and he told me they were the same. This cracked me up because while they may be similar to many, they are so different to me and have a different overall look. Here is Option 1 that I posted about here: And here is Option 2: You can see the only change I made was switching the tile to this one and changing the mirror frame color from mint to dark teal. I love, love, love the original design. I used this design to break down my design process and this still might be my favorite room I’ve ever designed. But Option 2 is really appealing to me too. In Option 1, I think the tile is a huge statement and your eye is really drawn to it. Option 2 is more subtle, which I think makes you look more at the whole picture in a way. I really want this bathroom to tie in with our master bedroom design. I know I haven’t shared it yet, but I’m firming it up now and will share soon. For a hint, dark teal plays a major role as well as light blue and brass. Both of these would go with that, but one may be a slightly better fit… And just for reference, the runner hasn’t been purchased yet and I can alter the color of blue in the overdyed palette based off the design if necessary. Regardless, I cannot decide and this tile needs to be on its way like yesterday! What’s your opinion friends? Option 1 with the statement-making royal tile? Or Option 2 with the dark teal mirrors? *** To follow our renovation journey every step of the way, make sure you subscribe to posts! They come straight to your inbox when posted. Kayla Gassaway says July 10, 2015 at 4:04 pm I LOVE option 2! I feel like the mirrors don’t “sink” into the tile pattern. Option 1 seems a little much for the eye:) Reply
Melissa Sorci Taft / Feather Your Nest says July 10, 2015 at 4:05 pm I love, love, love the tile in option 1! I think it makes more of a design statement – the other one, while very pretty looks kind of dull in the overall scheme. Reply
Kim says July 10, 2015 at 4:06 pm I feel the mirrors in option 1 get lost and they really stand out in #2!! Reply
Cathy says July 10, 2015 at 4:13 pm I have to say I prefer Option 2. I think the tile in Option 1 might just be too strong a statement in a small room like a bathroom, and Option 2 makes the mirrors pop more, whereas they are a bit lost in Option 1. Looking forward to seeing what you choose! Reply
Leah Heffelfinger says July 10, 2015 at 4:26 pm LOVE #1 it’s so gorgeous and makes a great statement. It seems more “handpainted” than #2. Reply
Amy says July 10, 2015 at 4:27 pm I like Option 1 because the teal stands out and connects well with the rug you have planned – to me that is a rich color and it “pops” the design of the tiles overall – a real focal point, which was the whole point 🙂 Ties both the floor and walls together in a way that is cohesive. Colleen says July 10, 2015 at 4:38 pm I like the 2nd option it really looks like it finishes the room completely and the teal is very regal looking!!! Reply
Holly Sharp says July 10, 2015 at 4:38 pm Ooh…both are pretty! But I say go with option 1. There’s something about combining the oval in the option 2 tile with the round mirrors that makes my eyes do weird things. Everything’s looking really pretty! Hope you’re well! ? Reply
Sarah says July 10, 2015 at 4:41 pm I think they’re both winners but personally lean towards option 2! Option 1 makes more of a statement but I think option 2 would potentially play more nicely with other elements of the master suite, especially if you run into having to make more design changes. Either way it’ll be great so try not to stress about making the “right” decision! Reply
Wendy says July 10, 2015 at 4:47 pm Option 1 is more dramatic. I don’t care for the color of the mirror against the tile. The color of the tile in Option 2 is more soothing which I think is important in a bathroom. I really like them both but if I had to choose one, I would go with Option 2. Reply
Sherry Mullis says July 10, 2015 at 4:51 pm I vote for option 2. Option 1 certainly makes a bold statement but in my opinion Option 2 will work for the long haul and you won’t get tired of it as quickly. It still looks like “you” to me just ever so slightly toned down. If it was a question of which fabric to use I’d say go with what makes you happy but I do believe since the tile is a more permanent choice you should consider option 2 closely.. Reply
Deborah H says July 10, 2015 at 4:56 pm I like option 2 the best. First off, I really do like both designs, but in option 1 I feel like the tile is the “star” and the other pieces get lost a little. I love how option 2 gives you great statement tile but the other pieces are perfectly enhanced/highlighted as well. Do what YOU love though! : ) Reply
Krista says July 10, 2015 at 5:00 pm I vote for option 1, the original tile you chose with the mint colored framed mirrors. That design has more curves in the pattern and therefore feels more friendly and cozy. Option 2 has more angles in it. Reply
AmandaH says July 10, 2015 at 5:07 pm Option 1 – I say if you’re going to do a patterned tile, go big or go home! Ha! Reply
Debbie says July 10, 2015 at 5:10 pm I prefer #2. I like the way the teal mirrors pop off of the slightly calmer tile. I think either tile will make a bold statement. I think the first one is beautiful but maybe to much of a good thing in your bathroom. Your home is going to be amazing. Can’t wait to see it all come together. Reply
Diana says July 10, 2015 at 5:20 pm Option 1. There is more contrast. While I love option 2 as well, it seems more monochromatic. Reply
Cassandra says July 10, 2015 at 5:23 pm Both designs are gorgeous, however, I prefer design 2 as the lighter shades of color allow you ‘see’ more of the overall design of the space. The eye is not drawn just to the wall tiles but also able appreciate the beautiful silver/chrome feet of the tub and what appears to be silver/chrome castors on the cabinets as well. I also think the stunning bass light fixture, a feature piece in the design, will get lost when placed in the room surrounded with tile design 1 as there is so much ‘brass’ in that tile. I also love the darker teal circular mirrors in design 2 and they play well off of the oval featured in this tile design. Overall, I think design 2 is a more subdued, elegant and soothing space to ready one’s self in every morning. C. Reply
Anna C. says July 10, 2015 at 5:47 pm I like Option 1. The tile is curvy and more earthy and organic looking. Something about the straight bits in the tile print in option 2 lean deco to me and I don’t think that feels like your vibe as much. To me option 1 feels good. I don’t know if I’m describing this well… Reply
Kelly says July 10, 2015 at 6:04 pm I love both options! But, respectfully, I think it might help you decide if you just tweak the design boards a little. The oval shape of the tile on board 2 is misleading, I think, and I think the mirrors in both designs would be ever more so eye-catching if you framed them better with the pattern on the tile. Maybe back to the drawing board for a quick revision? And my current two cents is that you absolutely cannot go wrong, both designs are show stoppers! LOVING ALL OF IT! Reply
Kelly says July 10, 2015 at 6:06 pm You know, at second glance, the Celtic crosses in the tile on board two are REALLY standing out to me (check out the photo of the tile in a real room on the Home Depot website). Not sure I love that shape knowing it’s one I’ve never seen in your designs. Reply
Ellie says July 10, 2015 at 6:38 pm option 2. While option 1 is more dramatic, I think you may also tire of it sooner…for that very reason. I remember a tiled floor with a very strong pattern. Had it been toned down a bit we might have loved it longer. Not to spoil sport, but Kelly may have a point about re-evaluating the mirrors. Round may work on option 1, but on two would an oval be more pleasing? Reply
Sandie says July 10, 2015 at 7:29 pm Both are very lovely, but I think Option 1 is more dramatic…..Option 1 . Reply
Nichol Jordan says July 10, 2015 at 7:39 pm We pick the second tile! You can accent so much with everything else. Love the choice!! Reply
Karen says July 10, 2015 at 7:46 pm I think that you should choose option one but switch the mirror from two to one bringing in the darker teal to tie everything together. Reply
Alyssa says July 10, 2015 at 8:18 pm I am sure that they would both look great, but I personally like #2, I think it plays nicer with your intended vanities by pulling out the tanish shades. It almost seems to make the vanity ‘pop’ more in contrast with the tile. Reply
Patti says July 10, 2015 at 10:21 pm Option 2. Love the less busy tile and especially the dark teal mirrors and rug. Same color as my bedroom curtains! Reply
Melissa says July 10, 2015 at 11:25 pm I absolutely LOVE option 1! Even though the mirrors are more subtle, they are the “completer” piece in the bathroom. It adds a pop because there is hardly any green in the tile. I also love the tile in the first option because it is less busy. But I would live in either bathroom if I could :). Reply
Emily says July 10, 2015 at 11:42 pm I vote option 2. Option 1 says “old world”, option 2 says “sophisticated”. Have fun! Reply
Sherri says July 10, 2015 at 11:50 pm I vote for Option #1. The boldness of the tile makes such a statement. You can tweak everything else around that tile. Don’t second guess yourself. Reply
Lindsey says July 11, 2015 at 12:08 am I think the deeper tones in #1 pair nicely with the brass fixtures. #2 looks a little washed out to me. Both look great! Reply
Whitney says July 11, 2015 at 12:39 am Option 1. I feel like this option gives a better overall picture. The darker mirrors stand out to me in option 2 but the tile is still the star in option 1. What do you want to be the star? The tile or the mirrors? Reply
Dawn says July 11, 2015 at 2:13 am Personally I would eventually get tired of option 1. I love the subtlety of option 2 tile and love the mirror color. Good luck deciding! Reply
Karen Rotman says July 11, 2015 at 9:23 am Option 2 is more calming to me.. Too much going on in option 1, but if that is your first love – do it! Reply
Kim says July 11, 2015 at 11:44 am Love both options however, Option 2 is the one I would choose. Good luck & looking forward to the reveal. Reply
Karie says July 11, 2015 at 1:55 pm Option 1 all the way! Your original instinct is usually right. Reply
Susan says July 13, 2015 at 9:13 am option 1 ~~ it was your first choice go with that one ~~~~~ I like the pattern better also!!! Reply
Val says July 13, 2015 at 9:37 am #1 appeals the most to me. Love how the tile is such a beautiful focal point! While #2 is nice as well, nothing really stands out to me. Reply
Libby says July 13, 2015 at 4:11 pm I LOVE option #2. I love the darker mirror frame, and feel the tile won’t be so overwhelming and right in front of you in option #2 like it would be in #1. I agree that the 2nd option lets you see the room as a whole – BUT I do think both tiles are extremely pretty. Looking forward to the final result! Blessings, Reply
Corinna - A Designer At Home says July 13, 2015 at 6:38 pm I was immediately drawn to the new tile choice. There’s just something about that pattern that I liked, found visually pleasing, and felt worked with the brick better. Reply
Krystal says July 14, 2015 at 12:40 pm Option # 2 is the better one in my opinion. It let’s the other elements pop and not get lost like they do in the original tile option . Option #1 tile would be fabulous as a statement wall though. Not really sure how the bathroom is configured but I can imagine white walls especially on the vanity wall and that fabulous tile in Option #1 behind the tub/shower. The tub/shower do not compete with the tile as they are larger less busy objects. Reply
~abi~ says July 14, 2015 at 12:44 pm option 2!! i thought option one was cool and interesting, but i think option 2 is all of that plus elegant and beautiful! Reply
Angela Simon says July 14, 2015 at 2:35 pm Both are beautiful. But for me it’s option #2. Maybe it is that it’s more subtle. I love the ovals and the dark color of the mirrors. It’s always easier to make a decision for someone else than it is to make our own. Reply
Julie says July 14, 2015 at 2:53 pm Option 1 all the way sista! I don’t like the deep teal mirrors in option two and even though the designs of tile are similar, option 2 looks like it comes from a different time period and throws off the cohesion of the overall look IMHO :). The sun would still come up tomorrow if you choose option 2 BUT sometimes a 2nd option just clouds our first love for short time. One thing that may help you decide where your heart is…Tell your hubby to tell you that you can’t have one of the tiles. (he can pick either one, it won’t matter). Tell him to be adamant about it. From there, if you are ok with it, choice made. ..if you are heartbroken then you can beg him for the other one ;). Either way your heart will show where it’s loyalties lie…gee whiz this sounds like a soap opera! Bahaah! BEAUTIFUL EITHER WAY! Reply
beatrijs says July 15, 2015 at 1:55 pm Option 1 leans towards gloomy and I think you will tire of it over time. Option 2 is lighter and feels more timeless. Reply
deb says July 16, 2015 at 5:35 pm I like both designs, but Option 2 is a bit lighter and seems like it’d fit better in a bathroom space. Reply
