Home DecorOur Front Porch for Fall October 7, 2016Thanks for all of y’all’s sweet feedback on our exterior reveal yesterday! We love the transformation for sure! Today, I wanted to share an up-close version of our fall porch. Our front porch was one of the first things I put together and shared when we moved in last fall. You can check out that post here. This was before the exterior was remotely finished, even before we had railings on the porch! I loved it this way, but as we adjusted to life over here and finishing rooms, a lot of these things got pulled inside. And as much as I loved all of the texture and layers, we realized this porch does get more blowing rain than we thought, so we needed to go with something a little less vulnerable. I’m so excited about our porch this year! It’s finally done and finished in a way that we’ll love for months to come! I decided to photograph it at my favorite time of day. I love it at dusk with the bulb lights and some candles lit. As I said in yesterday’s post, we still have some landscaping to do out here for sure! But that doesn’t mean our front porch can’t be dressed up and ready for fall! I found these two pale green/gray pots at Old Time Pottery. I love how they look against the dark green house and the berry-colored mums! Old Time Pottery has always been a favorite of mine for lanterns and pots. They have such a huge variety and great prices. I was so excited to partner with them on some things to finish out our porch this fall! We knew when we started planning the exterior of the house that we wanted to do this standard bungalow entry with the layered brick pillars and wide steps in between. I had seasonal decorating on my mind even then and could just picture this area piled with pumpkins and mums! With these pillars, we sort of have a layered entry. I like doing something symmetrical out on the pillars like the mums and stacked pumpkins. But then doing something a little varied and layered up by the door. The first thing that made me want to do the dark green exterior was how I knew it would look with all shades of pumpkins up against it. I love how they pop. Since the right side of the door is the end of the porch, I did something a little taller to balance all of the taller furniture to the left. The tall lantern and pot is also from Old Time Pottery. The pumpkins are from a local farmer’s market and Trader Joe’s. I love getting a variety of colors and shapes in my pumpkins during the fall! My goal with picking pots and lanterns for the porch were obviously to pick some items I loved that were neutral to really work for any season. That way, I can change out the pumpkins for fall, greenery for Christmas, etc., but still have these pretty basics as a base. I love this huge white pot that I can fill with a mix of seasonal flowers. Right now, I have kale and some maroon pansies. I planted it a few weeks ago and it has already filled out so much. I love it! The wooden lantern is one of my very favorite things. I love the stained finish and the pattern. I sure do love coming home to a pretty entry! For the sitting area, the first goal was to use what we had, but also create a fun little lounge area. We had some challenges with this space because it’s super narrow and long. It’s only six feet deep. We could’ve extended the depth, but decided to save money here and go with the depth of the existing smaller porch. But I love what we were able to fit. There’s seating and clearance to move around some, which is what I’d hoped for. The ratan loveseat is from AE Outdoor and we’ve had it since last year and still love it! It’s so comfy and holds up great. I love a good antique deacon’s bench and I got this one at an antique store years ago for really cheap. I actually loved using it against the green house. The chippy finish makes it stand out a bit, but I love that it blends with the background and gives me more freedom with changing up the finishes and colors from time to time. I found these berry, peach, and blue floral pillows at Old Time Pottery and fell in love with the colors and patterns. I love how they tie in with the inside of the house and feel so fall to me. They’re a great outdoor fabric and are technically floor pillows, so they’re the perfect size to use along the back of the loveseat. I had the blue plaid pillow from last year’s fall tour (found at TJ Maxx) and liked how it pulled a little blue out. The solid blue and berry pillow are from Old Time Pottery as well. I love this little sitting area! I pulled the berry and pinky/peach tones from the pillows out in the mums and pumpkins. This space sure makes me happy! A huge thanks to Old Time Pottery for partnering on some special finds for the porch we’ll enjoy for many seasons to come out here! Thanks for checking out our fall porch! If you missed the rest of our fall home tour, you can check it out here! This post was done in partnership with Old Time Pottery. All opinions are 100% my own.
