Home DecorHow to Clean Vintage Rugs October 29, 2015 My style is really defined by colorful, patterned rugs that tell a story. Nearly every room I design has one as its’ base. I think the majority of style questions I get have to do with, “Where did that rug come from??” Most of mine are vintage because few companies are making beautiful Persians and kilims these days that have the same appeal as a vintage rug (though I’ve recently found one I’ll share soon!). Vintage is a really nice way of saying old and used. While I love the history and story, I don’t necessarily love the wear, dirt and stains that come with it. When Home Depot asked me for my advice on how to clean vintage rugs, I was so excited! I have several new-to-me rugs for this house that I knew needed cleaning. I went through step-by-step how to clean one of these vintage beauties and it could not be easier! You can check out my rug cleaning tutorial here on the Home Depot blog. And yes, I recognize those are some new shots of our fireplace!! Full fireplace post coming soon, friends.

Megan says October 29, 2015 at 11:57 am I read on your HD post that your rug is wool. I have heard that cleaning with a cleaner and then drying could damage and or shrink the rug. Have you had any problems and are your rugs 100% wool? I have a wool rug from Pottery Barn that needs to be cleaned. Reply

Amanda Katherine says October 30, 2015 at 10:57 pm You always have the best rugs! Where do you find your vintage ones? I bought a thrift tufted chair and it was in great shape but needed some cleaning. I blasted it with a steamer and it worked great! p.s. Your fireplace looks amazing!
