Home DecorEntry Updates – New Persian Rug November 4, 2016 The new entry rug has made a subtle appearance in a few posts like last week’s dining room rug post. Some of you noticed it in this shot from our fall family lifestyle shoot. And I thought it was about time we talked about that baby! The entry was the first room I really shared after finishing our renovation. I started with this great kilim from Rug & Home. I started out picturing a runner in here and then fell in love with this rug and it only came in 5 x 8. It fit in the room and so I made it work and did love it for awhile! But the more I lived with it, the more I started to picture a runner. I thought this one would make more of a statement because of the added width, but it was shorter than most runners, so it didn’t fill the entry like I’d pictured. While I loved the colors and print, I started to think maybe a runner would work better for the space. When I was scouring my favorite eBay rug store, Ecarpetgallery, for rugs for our bedroom and bath, I came across this beauty. {you can read about my tips for buying vintage rubs on eBay here.} Pup did not want to move for some of these photos, so I thought, “What the heck!” This is real life around here, y’all. Welcome to how our entry looks the majority of the time. This girl loves to stare out and people-watch. And I’ve gotta’ admit…I love when I catch her or Rosie in a shot. Makes it really feel true to our home! They’re both hard to nail down on camera sometimes! The photos of this rug literally stopped me in my tracks. I’d already found rugs for the bed and bath that worked really well there, so I knew this wasn’t a fit for those spaces. BUT, I could not shake the colors and patterns here! While I normally purchase a rug for a certain space, I purchased this rug because I just loved it that much. It just felt like it had to live with me at The Buffalo Bungalow! I hoped it would work in here, but knew I’d find a spot if it didn’t. The awesome thing about rugs is they really hold their value if they’re taken care of! I was able to sell the other one to pay for this one! So it was a fair trade. Yep, I totally should’ve vacuumed this before shooting it! Oh well, I said real life and it sure is! I thought life with a Great Dane was messy…she’s nothing compared to Miss Rosie! But I wouldn’t have it any other way…a little grass from playing hard outside and some dust never hurt anybody. I’m kicking myself now for not writing down the price of this one. I bought three at the same time for all of the projects we had going on and don’t remember the exact number, but I’m pretty sure it was right around $250. A steal for a 3.5 x 9.5′ vintage Persian runner! As soon as I rolled her out in here, the room felt complete. While I love our entry, it’s felt too plain to me. I designed so much at once when we were doing this (in the midst of my thyroid-induced creative drought, no less) and the paint and details in here were really a last-minute decision. I’ve considered re-painting or even wallpapering, but for now, this rug makes this space the pretty, more lively welcome I was picturing. I thought when I ordered it that I was going to have to replace or paint the dresser I’ve been using as an entry table. In my mind, red and berry did not mix. But when it got here, I was so pleasantly surprised! The entire border of the rug (as well as some center details) are the exact berry color of my dresser. I love leaning different art on the dresser and this red and green thrift store floral pulls all of my favorite colors out of the rug! And now, I’m loving the mix! I really love the color-play in here… The blue-gray doors are the perfect compliment to this colorful palette to me! I love a good color mix. You can read about all of the other room details in our original entry post. All that changed really was this great rug and it feels like a whole new space! *** That’s been The White Buffalo motto for the last three years and is still what I’m striving to do each day in our home and with our family. Yes, that often means tablescapes, inspiring interiors, and fun before and after renos. But it also means family. Faith. Joy. Struggles. Laughter. Health. You’ll find a little bit of all of that here as I share how we’re choosing to live with both style and purpose. A huge part of that is our journey toward a more natural life that’s focused on enjoying each and every moment together. A huge thanks to my main blog sponsor that makes this dream of mine possible:
Susan L. says November 4, 2016 at 6:47 am Looks beautiful! Love the color of that dresser.I’ve found that I love using “close” colors together. I read somewhere a designer saying he could never get his greens right until he realized you have to put many shades of green together in a space because that’s how it is in nature. I’ve found that to be true with other colors as well. The variation in one intensifies the other. You have such a warm and lovely home–completely to my tastes!! Reply

Rachel Winchester says November 4, 2016 at 1:21 pm Great colors! I know what you mean about envisioning a runner. Once you get a specific item/look in mind, it’s hard for it to feel complete until it’s there!! P.S. Real life pics are refreshing. 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says November 7, 2016 at 4:26 pm Yes it is!!! And I’m so glad! Glad my dust and debris didn’t offend anyone 🙂 It’s almost always there in my photos just not quite as obvious as these up-close shots! Reply
