EntertainingBSHT Thanksgiving Tablescape 2015 November 2, 2015Welcome to one of my favorite weeks of the year, y’all! This week, I’m joined by 31 other bloggers to share how we entertain for Thanksgiving. I love to entertain and set a pretty table. That’s a common feature here on the blog. What I love most about entertaining, though, is not the table itself, but what it represents. Entertaining at its’ core is about gathering. It’s purposeful fellowship with friends and family. And no other holiday exemplifies that better than Thanksgiving. When setting a Thanksgiving table, you’re creating space in our busy lives to come together, connect, and reflect with grateful hearts. My heart is overflowing this year in a way it hasn’t in years past. While I always try to be aware of the blessings around us, celebrating Rosie’s first Thanksgiving is so special. Becoming a mother has changed me in so many unexpected ways and I’m seeing this holiday in a whole new light. There’s an abundance of moments and people to be grateful for and I want to treasure each one. To me, such a special occasion deserves an equally special and beautiful setting. In creating a space that invites your loved ones to linger around the table, I always start with a clear inspiration. Earlier this fall, I fell in love with these dishes. I love the jewel tones of plum, berry indigo, and deep green. I am loving this color palette right now and to me, jewel tones feel so much like fall. I usually go very patterned with my textiles but I decided to let these plates shine. I went with a solid plum linen tablecloth and berry napkins. I like how these two colors are in the same color family, but are slightly different shades. I always lean toward a very layered centerpiece. It really fits my eclectic style. But this time around, I decided to go a different route. I love the floral in the dishes and decided a large floral arrangement front and center was the right choice. To me, it’s actually more simple to put together. My usual centerpieces have so many parts and require so much balance, which can be hard and take time to really achieve. I prefer an organic, sort of wild floral arrangement rather than something tailored, so there really are no rules. I cut some branches from our backyard that have some lovely blue berries. Then, I mixed in a few blooms from Trader Joe’s in my chosen color palette. The wilder and more assymetrical the better. Just like in my house, I love mixing materials and styles in my tablescapes. I love the mix of rustic with gilded metallics. Here, I layered the copper pitcher that’s serving as a vase over a large piece of live-edge wood to add contrast. I used strands of wood beads from the craft store as napkin rings and stuck a few cotton blooms in each. Again with mixing styles, I love those natural elements paired with the gold chargers, brass silverware, and cut-crystal glassware. While I love some “fancier” entertaining pieces, I want to create a casual and approachable table. Bringing in natural elements does a great job of that. I try to have colors balanced and repeated throughout, so you’ll see that all of the color from the plates is carried out with the tablecloth base, up through the napkins and the glassware, and then all the way up to the flowers. I think that creates a more visually appealing (and cohesive) table. I can just taste the festive food that would be served here. My mom’s dressing and gravy, sweet potato soufflé, and of course, a warm cup of apple cider. These bold and rich color can’t help but remind me of the rich food and tradition that defines the Thanksgiving table. Make sure you all hop over to the next stop on today’s tour: The Inspired Room. Jennifer@The Chronicles of Home says November 4, 2015 at 1:40 pm Really beautiful, Lindsay! Those plates are so gorgeous and are the perfect jumping off point. Jennifer @ Dimples and Tangles says November 4, 2015 at 11:07 pm Lindsay, your colors are just yummy and those flowers? To die for! Love the outdoor setting. Beautiful, friend! Reply
Lindsey says November 5, 2015 at 5:09 pm Yes, that centerpiece is gorgeous. It looks like it would just topple over if I tried to do it — is there any weight in the pitcher? Or is there some of that florists’ foam in there somewhere? Reply
Lindsay says November 6, 2015 at 12:19 pm Lindsey, I was worried about that too! I carefully put it together waiting for it to topple, but it didn’t thankfully. The pitcher does have some weight, but not a ton. I didn’t have to use any florists foam because the mouth of the pitcher was pretty narrow so I was able to arrange all of the stems in it like I wanted and there wasn’t extra room for them to shift.
