UncategorizedDIY Pipe and Wood Candlesticks October 20, 2014 If you missed my Harvest Tablescape reveal, make sure you check it out here. I absolutely loved doing this project for Home Depot! I love entertaining and I LOVE fall, so creating a party guide to celebrate both was super fun. {You can see the entire post on the Home Depot blog here. I’ll be sharing details throughout the week of the different projects and areas we styled for fall.} Today, I want to talk about the candlesticks. Remember, my goal was to create ambiance. Nothing says ambiance at a party, especially a cozy fall party, like the flickering flame of a candle. We didn’t have a lot of centerpiece space to work with on our new wire spool dining table, but I still wanted something with a big impact. So, instead of fitting one pumpkin in the center, I opted for a grouping of various candlesticks that would add height and an overall large statement. When grouping candlesticks like this, I like to mix metals, colors, and textures. I usually stick to all neutral candlesticks, but really like a mix versus all brass or all wood. I used some brass, wood and silver candlesticks that I had, but I didn’t have enough and decided a DIY was in order! I wanted some large raw wood candlesticks. When we came across this fence post at Home Depot, I knew it could make some great carved-looking candlesticks! We decided to make two out of this so that each had the carving. I wanted them different heights, so we decided how tall we wanted them and then cut them to size. Once they were cut down, we used a 3/4″ paddle bit to make a hole for taper candles. Average taper candles are 3/4″ wide, so this creates a snug fit and will stand up straight. The pipe candlesticks were super easy! Any 3/4″ pipe will work great for a candlestick. You just want some sort of base so that it will stand up. There are so many different options and the best part? They just screw into each other! You’ll have completed industrial candlesticks in a matter of seconds! I love the eclectic centerpiece they come together to make! I especially love how the new mixes with the old of my vintage silver and brass candlesticks. And adding in colored candlesticks really makes it pop and feel unique versus traditional white candlesticks. There are so many options with colored candlesticks and each one would bring a different feel to the table! My favorite source is our local Wilsons dollar store. They have a huge selection! I’m so excited to have these candlesticks to use in future vignettes and tablescapes! *** Check out our most popular topics: Subscribe to our daily feed to make sure you don’t miss any Daily Doses of Style!
