Home DecorRug Pads: The Key to My Vintage Rugs March 3, 2016 Rugs are my design trademark. To me, a room just isn’t complete without some color, pattern, and interest on the floor. Persian, kilim, vintage, I love it all. {You can see our entry post here.} With a large dog that runs and plays around the house, these rugs (especially the flat woven kilims), stayed in a pile against one wall a lot of the time. Can any other big dog owners relate? I love my vintage rugs, but they definitely don’t grip the floor. She could even get our heavy and thick vintage Persian in the living room out of place. I knew it would be smart to get a rug pad for all of our rugs, but amidst all of the moving and renovation craziness, we just threw the rugs down and called it a day. We finally got some and I’m happy to report that my pretty, beloved rugs stay in place! Even Gracie is no match for these from Rug Pad Corner. I went with the Ultra Premium rug pads. What really sold me on these is that they’re organic, so there’s no rubbery smell like many rug pads have. The natural rubber is heat-pressed to the felt, not glued, so no adhesives means this rug pad is not only odor free, but perfectly safe for little Rosie to play on. They’re safe for all floor types, even heated floors. They’re textured to be 100% non-slip and you guys, they seriously are. Gracie now takes off running on some of our thin rugs and they don’t budget at all. I LOOOOVE it. They will cut them to any size that you need, so I got mine slightly smaller than the rug so that there’s no chance of seeing it sticking out. My absolute favorite part about these is how cushy and comfortable they make the rug now. They’re 1/3″ thick and super soft so our rugs now feel plush and like there’s a little bit of padding between them and the hard floor. As a mama with a baby who’s trying to learn to walk, I’m oh so happy about this. And selfishly, I spend a lot more time these days sitting in the floor with toys. The cushy-comfort is needed. I’ve said on the blog before that I really tend toward form over function. I’m bad about choosing the pretty and forgoing the things that are practical, but aren’t seen. Hence why I lived with no rug pads and my rugs piled up against the wall for the last several years. I’ve learned my lesson from these, y’all. Practicality wins out. And who am I kidding? This really just feeds my vintage rug addiction. A big thanks to Rug Pad Corner for introducing me to these! This is a sponsored post by Rug Pad Corner. All opinions are 100% my own.
Austin says March 3, 2016 at 12:07 pm I’ll admit, spending money on the not-so-fun, unseen elements of home design doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies. However, I have a thin (super cute) Ikea rug in my living room that scrunches up and folds over all the time, so I’m really thankful for this post. I trust your advice, and maybe this is what I need to solidify my love for the rug. #adultlife Reply
Laura says March 3, 2016 at 2:29 pm It’s great that you do that….there are so many design bloggers that have no rug pads and it really detracts from the room. They also lay so much nicer, even if you don’t have pets or children. Reply
Brenlee @ Life on Lake Street says March 3, 2016 at 4:02 pm I’ve followed your blog for awhile now and absolutely love your home and writing! Now, I find out you have a Great Dane and my admiration is complete! Love Great Danes, and rug pads are a must! Both for big dogs (and their zoomies) and for everyday use. Thanks for sharing your home 🙂 Reply

KathleenC says March 3, 2016 at 7:10 pm I understand the shifting rug issue. I don’t have a big dog, but four cats running races and doing gymnastics from one side of the room to the other can send any rug off kilter. I do have a pad under the big living room rug, but not the runner… something that can be sized appropriately sounds perfect! Reply
Corinna - A Designer At Home says March 19, 2016 at 1:24 pm Yup! I couldn’t agree more. This is exactly what I preach. Pretty rugs can’t stand a chance without the back up of a good pad. Reply
