Home DecorHow to Style a Coffee Table August 19, 2016 I’m not sure why, but I think styling a coffee table can be one of the hardest styling tricks there is! I have a few simple principles that I go with when it comes to How to Style a Coffee Table that I wanted to share with y’all today! I partnered with one of my new favorite brands, Mintwood Home, on some fun and special items that really make our coffee table shine. First, let’s take a look at my steps. I’m a visual person and I think seeing it evolve makes such a difference. Now for my go-to steps. As I said in the reveal, I pictured a much larger ottoman in this room and then realized that it doesn’t function well for our family. We need the play space! But I love that my little steps work for any size coffee table and can really spruce up any surface, no matter the size. 1. ADD A TRAY ON ONE SIDE Trays are my favorite accessory for nearly every spot when it comes to styling. I love how they anchor an area and create a great base to collect a few items. They’re my number one go-to when it comes to coffee table styling. I like sitting them off-center on one side. Centering it to me looks to expected and can feel forced. I chose this capiz tray from Mintwood Home as my base. I loved that it was neutral and blended in some with the coffee table, but still had great texture and even a little shine. 2. ADD GREENERY OR FLOWERS ON THE TRAY As I said, I love collecting a few things on my trays and this is always my first. Put it off-center to leave room for your other finds. Choose a potted plant or a vase of flowers, but adding a bit of life is always a win. I chose this marbled blue vase to house my plant and I love the subtle hint of blue that ties into the rest of the room, but it doesn’t scream color, so it doesn’t take away from the whole picture. 3. BALANCE THE TRAY WITH A BASKET OR OTHER VESSEL ON THE OTHER SIDE While the tray is obviously larger, I balanced it with this brass thrift store basket on the other end. Shallow baskets like this are a favorite for coffee tables because they’re perfect for collecting things. 4. ADD A STACK OF BOOKS IN THE CENTER No coffee table is complete, in my mind, without a token stack of books. Maybe it’s what you’re reading in the morning, maybe they’re just some pretty coffee table books, but I love the height they add and pretty trinkets look better atop a stack of books than just resting on the table itself. 5. TOP THOSE BOOKS WITH A PRETTY VASE OR CANDLE Like I said above, that stack of books needs a pretty topper. Choose a candle or your favorite little vase that you really want to show off. I love this little white and brass bud vase and it looks so stately sitting there atop my morning reading books. 6. FILL YOUR BASKET I chose to put a candle in my basket because no coffee table is complete without a candle, but anything will do. Fill it with pinecones in the fall, which I’ll probably do! Or fill it with useful things you need a handy home for like the TV remotes. A pretty basket will dress those up! 7. FILL IN YOUR TRAY I love having a small little bowl out for seasonal candy. That’s always been a favorite of mine and it really completes a coffee table to me. The tray is the perfect place for that and it’s an easy reach from the couch! Nothing makes a living room feel quite as homey as that to me! I love when we have people over and there’s something handy they can grab. This little striped blue bowl is another thrift store find and I love how it pairs with the blue vase. 8. ADD A FINAL, QUIRKY ELEMENT I think my favorite part of this coffee table is the brass flying piggy bank. There’s a personal story behind this one that I’ll share later, but I think it really completes this table styling. Adding something funny or a little quirk like that makes your table feel relaxed, not too formal, and fun. Plus, it can be a great way to bring a personal element in! Well, there are my detailed steps for how I style a coffee table! You could easily adapt these for any size or shape of table that you had.
