Faith & FamilySimple Advent Idea for Kids December 7, 2015This is a sponsored post by Command Brand Products. Opinions are 100% my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me. I love decorating for Christmas. Nothing makes me happier than bringing a little of the season into each and every space. The problem I often run into is that hanging all of those garlands and decorations can often leave nail holes and damage that you’re going to notice the other 11 months of the year. This year, I decided to use some Command Brand hooks for some of my decor where we really didn’t want to put nails. As much as I like to change my decor, #DamagefreeDIY is something I can really get behind! These came in really handy with hanging our Advent calendar and study. Advent is my favorite part of Christmas. Counting down the days, anticipating the coming King, focusing your mind on the meaning behind this wonderful season. Now that we have a baby, we’re working to be more intentional and hone our family traditions. I fell in love with these kid-friendly Advent cards from Given Goods. I absolutely love their bright and fun pictures, but on the back, there is a very short and simple devotional with a verse that ties into the picture. I can’t wait to walk Rosie through this simple, but powerful version of the Christmas story using these special cards. I knew I wanted our Advent cards somewhere very central in the house where we would see them throughout the day and be reminded to have joy and focus on the meaning. We spend all of our time back in the living and kitchen area, so this big wall separating the two spaces seemed perfect. While I don’t plan on leaving this wall blank long-term, I have no idea what’s going to end up on it. And I’m pretty confident whatever does will not span the entire wall like this Advent calendar. So, Command Brand hooks and no damage were the perfect option for us. They have a lot of different finishes, but I decided to go with the Command Brand Clear Medium Hook, so that you wouldn’t see them at all! They totally blend into the wall and let our Christmas decor shine. Make sure you follow the package guidelines when hanging and preparing your hooks. They couldn’t be more simple to install, though! I only needed a few simple materials for this project: Live pine garland Clothes pins strung on twine (from the Target dollar section – they come pre-strung!) Joy Advent Cards Bows for the ends of garlands (also from the Target dollar section) Command Brand Clear Medium Hooks We followed the instructions on the back of the package to adhere the hooks to the wall. We hung one set our desired length apart and then hung another set about a foot directly below the first set. Then, we strung a garland between each set of hooks. We didn’t have to secure these to the hooks at all because the thickness of the garland fits snugly into the hook. After that, we strung the twine and clothes pins along the garland, tying a little knot at each end around the hooks to hold it in place. The glitter bows I got come with a twist tie on the back, so it attaches easily to each end of the garland. Then, it’s time to start hanging your cards! There is one for each day leading up to Christmas. I love the tradition of hanging one each day as a family and doing the little devotion on the back. I also love the idea of watching the garlands fill up with the pretty cards as the month progresses. I know our little Rosie doesn’t understand any of this yet, but she stares up at them when she’s in the living room. I love that they’re capturing her attention even now. And I love that until these are needed again next Christmas, they’ll leave no trace behind once they’re taken down!
