Home DecorORC Week 4 – Finds for the Master Bedroom April 28, 2016This One Room Challenge is trucking along, y’all. How is it already week 4? I feel like I haven’t gotten a ton done in the room, but a lot of the big updates are happening in the next two weeks. My rooms always really come together at the last minute and I’m sure that’s what will happen with this one. But what I’ve been most concerned about is rounding up some of the key pieces: a chest, nightstands, and details. I still have a few things to find or figure out, but I had a great day antiquing and hunting last Saturday and came across this big chest. It’s perfect for the left corner by the bathroom and exactly what I’d looked for. We wanted a tall chest to really help with clothes’ storage. I had searched and searched, but hadn’t found much. I was at a local antiques spot, Rockhouse Antiques, when I came across this beauty. It was marked down to $125 because the paint is chipped in spots, but I love that! I really wanted to bring in a little rustic to this room, so I was hoping for an old wood or semi-distressed painted finish. I’ll probably still sand it a little more, but it won’t be work-intensive at all. That’s a huge plus with all that still has to happen in here! I actually like the original hardware too! I had pictured wood over here in this corner to bring a wood element into the room ( my rooms always need one) and because the walls are white. But as planning for this room has shaped up, I’m actually excited about the white-on-white over here to tone down some of the other elements. You can see the current curtains are white too. I think they’re staying. Picturing the very, very colorful wall to the left, I’m kind of thinking I’ll like the softness of this are over here. But as it comes together, I may change my mind for sure. I think my favorite thing about this piece is its unique shape. The top section with four smaller drawers steps in some and it just has some little unique lines compared to most standard tall chests. Notice our pretty rug laid out? I love it so much. All the colors are exactly what I’d hoped for! You can read about the rug in the original plans post here. Now can we talk about that art? One of my absolute favorite things is connecting with other creatives, especially local. This past week, I met Marquin Campbell of Marquin Designs. She has a local studio in town and I absolutely LOVE her pieces. She’s doing a really fun collaboration this week with another artist, Miles Purvis where Miles paints the first layer of each painting and Marquin finishes with the second layer. I took a tour of her studio on Monday and was so inspired! I fell in love with this piece and immediately pictured it in our new master bedroom with that blue floral wallpaper and the red and peach rug. This painting is 18 x 18″, but they also have 12 x 12″ ‘s available. Fun paintings like this one from their collaboration will go live to shop on Marquin’s site Friday at noon. I seriously want one for each room. The colors are beautiful, but something about it just speaks to me. I’m still deciding where it’ll go in the room….I really want it to be a focal point! This room is really starting to come together… Rug from eBay | Wallpaper from Milton & King | Target Threshold Sconce …even though there is still so much to do! Do y’all see the vision? The plan is to wallpaper in the next week and be able to share it with you for our next update. Fingers crossed! We’re coming down to the wire!
