Home DecorOptions for Kitchen Details August 7, 2015As I said in yesterday’s Kitchen Basics mood board, there are several different ways I could go with the details: lighting and art. I always mix styles with my design choices, especially with lighting. When there are multiple fixtures in a room like the kitchen where I have island pendants and sconces, I like to have different styles. In this case, I’m choosing to go with similar styled details. There are already a lot of design elements going on in this room and with the kitchen being open to the living and dining room, you’re going to see a lot more design elements and light fixtures in the same view. There will be two matching pendants over the island, so picture the pendants below with two matching. My first option is to layer on some rustic elements. Rustic Barn Pendant | Black & White Cow Print | Rustic Brass Cage Sconce I think the over-sized barn pendant would be a pretty, but simple addition to the kitchen. The sconce has a rustic vibe, but will really pop against the white walls and make a statement on the sink wall. And I’ve loved this cow print forever….that centered over the stove makes me happy. The other option is to go with a more modern add-on. Modern Sputnik Fixture | Abstract Art | Modern Sconce I love the lines of the pendant, but would probably paint the frame of the fixture white. With the copper and brick wall, I think I would like an all-white modern fixture popping against it. I would also paint the sconce frame in this case. I’m not sure what color since it’ll be on a white wall, but I just loved the clean lines of this one. And I love that the art picks up the peach tones from the rug. I think seeing the main elements come together will give me direction on these details, but I really am liking both options at this point. I also considered going a fancier route like this inspiration image. {via} I love this image, but Chris might kill me on that one. Crystal fixtures are his arch-nemesis, haha. He lets me win on a ton, so I’ll give him that one. We’re going antiquing this weekend, so I’m going to be looking for some vintage fixtures too with either of these fields. Sometimes, you find just the right vintage fixture that ties it all together. *** To follow our renovation journey every step of the way, make sure you subscribe to posts! Lindsay says August 10, 2015 at 4:39 pm Thanks Chelsea! I always do rustic, which I love…I’m just trying to decide if it’s too much rustic for me with the huge rustic brick wall… Reply
Kristina says August 7, 2015 at 5:13 pm I love the rustic, but you do that a lot. I was hoping you’d toss in glam as an option, and you did! So I say go for it. It’s definitely new for you! I’d love to see how you pair a little bit of glam with the whitewashed brick. 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says August 10, 2015 at 4:38 pm Thanks Kristina! I really would love that…Chris just might shoot me . We’ll see if I can find an option he likes 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says August 10, 2015 at 4:38 pm Thanks for sharing, Sandie! It’s so good to hear others opinions. I really don’t know where I’m headed yet, but I love both of these options! Reply
Sherri says August 8, 2015 at 6:35 pm One all the way. The sputnik reminds me of what a lot of bloggers do to get that modern vibe. Yes, they are super cool. Just like the sunburst/starburst mirrors are. But so many have them. I love the glam of the chandy. That’s the kind of the look I go for, but my hubby wanted no part of that look when we re-did our entry/ family room. So for the lighting in the foyer, we got one he preferred. Like Chris, he is usually a sport about many design decisions, but he won this one! Reply

Corinna - A Designer At Home says August 10, 2015 at 5:22 am I really dig the sconces from the first one. Those are really cool! Reply
Amy says August 10, 2015 at 7:54 am #1 all the way, too. It looks very “you” and you should stay true to your heart. Reply
Lindsay says August 10, 2015 at 4:36 pm Haha, thanks Amy! I do like 1, but I’ve always had a fondness for modern design. The pendants on 2 have my heart too! Reply
Mary says August 10, 2015 at 9:38 pm I love the crystal chandelier. But I understand the deal with keeping the hubby happy. If it makes you feel better, the crystals could get grimy in a kitchen. So do the rustic. Reply
Andi Lockwood says September 15, 2016 at 2:41 pm Nice, nice work-beautiful! Questions on how your cabinets were painted, please. The process? Many thanks, Andi Reply
Lindsay says September 16, 2016 at 5:50 pm HI Andi! I’m going to share some details next week, but we actually had a custom guy make these. Lacquering and installing them was a part of the fee, so we had nothing to do on them which was great with all of the reno we were managing. And we’ve been super happy with them! Reply
