UncategorizedSome Inspiration From Muffin Tullos March 31, 2011I was looking through some old magazines this past weekend and came across this gorgeous home in February’s issue of Better Homes and Gardens. The owner and designer is Muffin Tullos, and get this, she lives right here in South Carolina! Beaufort, to be exact. You really get that coastal vibe from her home. I’m normally a much more neutral girl, but I love the coastal feel and am so inspired by this home. My husband will tell you, I have looked at this probably twenty times since I found it! Here’s her living room: The painting over the fireplace was done by her mother and served as the inspiration for the entire house. Everything she put into her home had to fit with that painting. What a great way to ensure that your home, not necessarily “matches”, but all flows together well. Here’s the master: I love the white walls and bedding and how she added such interest with some well-chosen color. I’m normally so drawn to a neutral palette. Don’t get me wrong, I love color. But, I’ve created a base for our home out of whites and other neutrals. Anything goes with them! But, now, I think it’s time to start adding some really well-chosen color that adds just the right touch without being overwhelming, just as Muffin has done here. The sunroom: I LOVE this porch. I will have coastal shutters on my dream house (or atleast, in my dreams). I love the exterior interest they add, but also the options of leaving them closed for privacy or open for a great view. I’ve saved the best for last. I was most inspired by the exterior of this home: Wow. This is the image I kept going back to. I love the white paneled exterior with the hint of color and those porches! I just bet Muffin sits out there with her big family sipping on some sweet tea or lemonade. I know I would! So, I think I will start finding small doses of color to put into our home. Just enough to make the neutrals and pieces I love really shine!
