StyleFinding Style Fridays – Happy, Thoughtful, Collected March 7, 2014 I’m so thrilled to have Elizabeth from The Little Black Door sharing her style today. Elizabeth has such a gorgeous, and well-put-together home. I was so happy when she agreed to share it with you guys! Welcome, Elizabeth! *** Hi everyone! I’m Elizabeth from The Little Black Door and I was so excited when Lindsay asked me to be apart of this series. Well, excited and nervous. I always have trouble with questions that involve describing myself in any way. Ask me to describe anyone or anything else and I can write a novel, but to talk about me? Total blank. So what is my style?? I guess the easiest way to start is at the beginning. I was born on a hot afternoon in the summer of… OK not that beginning. My design beginning, which actually isn’t too late after my true beginning. Two weeks after in fact, when I went to my first estate sale. And not long after that, I went to my first auction. You see I grew up with true decor lovers. Most families take summer vacations to Disney World. We went to Disney World, but only on our way to tour Henry Ford’s summer estate. We toured every home and went to every museum that would let us in and as a result I soaked in all I could about various periods of design, styles of furniture etc. All of this education left me with a very strong appreciation for the classics. But I’ve found a way over the years to take that history and make it my own. So I would say my style is happy, thoughtful and collected. Happy Yes indeed, color makes me happy. I love the colors that great you in our entryway. Cozy spaces make me happy. Our bathroom is tiny, but we pack in as much fun as we can. My family makes me happy. And I love to see their smiling faces as I walk down the hall. Thoughtful History goes a long way in completing a space for me. I brought in my childhood desk to work as my bedside table in a room full of many ‘new’ things. Mixing an old chipped antique dresser with new lamps and accessories brings life to an empty corner. Reusing the antique beds my sister and I slept in for my daughters’ room plants the seed for another generation of antique lovers. Collected I collect more things than I care to mention and they are in every corner of the house. Like some of my milk glass on display in my living room. My blue and white collection brightens up my kitchen. I even have a collection of vintage pool balls on my coffee table. So there you have it, my design brain in a nutshell. Thanks again Lindsay for including me. This really was a fun exercise! And thank you all for ‘exercising’ with me today. Stop by and say Hi sometime! *** Gorgeous, right? Thank you, Elizabeth!
