UncategorizedDIY Garland: Cinnamon Sticks & Wood Beads November 26, 2013 Yesterday, I said I would share a little bit about the garlands I’m using on my tree this year. I started with some gold and silver tinsel garlands from the Dollar store. Remember, I’m going for glitz and rustic in my Anthro Christmas Lodge. Well, the tinsel garlands were just not cutting it by themselves. It felt like it needed something to ground it, if that makes sense. My husband looked at it and said, “Yep, it needs some rustic.” He may have had ulterior motives because he loves rustic, but I agreed. So, I went in search of a rustic garland and just couldn’t find one. Then I thought, I said I was going for a homemade Christmas, so why not just make one? I love how it turned out and like yesterday’s ornaments, this is the easiest project ever. What You’ll Need: Thin Beading String – any string would probably work, but I used this because it needs to be very thin to get through all of the cinnamon and beads. Cinnamon Sticks – I got these at Hobby Lobby and they have pretty large openings that makes it easy for stringing. Colored Wood Beads – I got an assorted bag of colored wood beads from Michael’s beading and jewelry section Then, string it together! I didn’t want any type of pattern, so I tried to choose the beads very randomly. You can customize it to your liking! I told you I was doing SIMPLE homemade Christmas, right? You can’t get much easier than this! I even think it would look good with a lot more wooden beads between the cinnamon sticks to give it more color. I chose to stick to three or so because I have another wood bead garland going close by, so I wanted them to coordinate, but not match. I really love how the rustic of this garland pairs with the glitz of the tinsel.

I was trying to come up with something for a mini tree that my kid and I could do together but things I already had on hand. My one cinnamon stick in the spice cabinet wouldn’t have cut it. We stuck with popcorn garland instead :). Reply
