UncategorizedWriting Progress and My Office April 14, 2011 As you know from my “stepping out of the old comfort zone” post the other day, I’ve been doing lots of soul searching around here. And the conclusion I have come to is one I’ve known for a long time, but its fire has been reignited! I was created to write. Not just to write, I know that, but write nonetheless. And so, write I shall. I’ve written every day since I made my commitment announcement. Three days in a row, wahoo! That may not sound like a feat, but for me, getting up earlier every day and writing my novel while it is still dark out is a FEAT! I’ll be honest, I thought I would hate it, but it’s just the opposite. I have LOVED it! I said the other day that I had to start “pouring” myself into my writing and when I sat down to do just that, I realized that I didn’t know how. ha! But, I’m trying to give it everything I have and am seeing progress, but most importantly, I am reaffirmed how passionately in love with writing I am. As I said, every writing craft book I’ve ever read says to write every day! Which I am trying to do. But, they also say that you should have an inspiring “writing” place in your home to help you accomplish it. And so, that brings me to my office: No, that’s not my office. But, how cool would it be if it was???? I found that image over at House Tweaking and fell in love! I’ve had a plan in the works for my office for a while. I need an office, a.k.a. writing nook, that invites me in and inspires me to sit down, spend some time there with a cup of coffee, and WRITE. I’ve been struggling with the office design and this picture sealed it up. My office will also have to serve as a guest bedroom, which is where I’ve been struggling. The bed is currently the first thing you see in the room and is backed up to a very large window. With this setup, my desk would be tucked in a little corner facing an ugly blue wall (the walls, trim, and ceiling are all a pretty harsh shade of bright blue). Not inspiring. So, along with some White Dove painted walls and new flooring (its currently linoleum – the only non-hardwood room in the house!), I’ve realized that I need to move the bed. In this picture, the desk is facing the window, which I love! If I move the bed to the other wall facing the window, I can put my desk right in front of the big picture window and let the sun stream in! We have some old boards left from building our dining table, so I’m going to build a super long farmhouse desk like you see here. My plan is to have it span the entire picture window to allow plenty of room for desk organization and a non-cluttered space! I’m inspired just looking at this picture – I can’t imagine how I’d feel actually writing in a room like that! This project will have to wait just a little while, though (considering we are still working on the bathroom, ahhh!). But, I do think, in order to benefit my writing of course, this project should be next in our cue. (Now I just have to convince my husband since his muscles and building/painting expertise will most definitely be needed!)
