UncategorizedDemolition Has Begun! March 6, 2013The pictures that I posted yesterday were taken on Saturday morning before some friends showed up to help Chris start knocking out some walls! These sweet guys from our community group spent Saturday gutting and demolishing the future kitchen. I went out to Old House Salvage to find some old doors for us to use (more on that later). When I returned, the view from the living room had gone from this: to this: People, I was gone two hours! The inside of the room had gone from this: to this: The view from inside the room started like this: And ended like this on Saturday: Love that Chris caught me totally unaware in this picture. Me with all that stuff gives you an idea of what our days are like right now. When we gutted this room, we discovered original bead board on the ceiling! I was initially so excited! Love me some character like that. But then we uncovered some damage. Boo hoo. Apparently, the last owners tried to spray popcorn ceiling onto the bead board. Why? I don’t know, but believe me, I wish I could ask… We talked with the contractor and it looks like our original plan to sheet rock the ceiling and bead board the walls of the kitchen will be better. So, yes, it pains me to rip out an original bead board ceiling, but bead board behind all of the kitchen shelves, etc., makes up for it. And just to keep y’all up to speed, when we got home last night (after our contractor had worked only two days), the future kitchen looked like this. What??? Floor raised, wall totally gone, beam in place. That beam will be stained dark. So excited for the dark stained beam framing our all-white kitchen! Here’s a view from the back of the house. Are y’all starting to see the open concept? Where I’m standing to take this photo is the living room and it will flow right into the kitchen. Love. And that’s not all he got done. No, this man’s a worker, I tell you! Yesterday morning when I left for work, the view from the front door was this: And when I got home, this lovely surprise greeted me. Oh the joys of using a trusted contractor and friend to help us do some of this work! Not doing it all ourselves is hard for us to get our minds around. We are major DIYers! And we will be doing plenty by ourselves, but how wonderful to see this kind of progress in just four short days!!! There will be lots more progress to show as we go along, but my mind is racing with design ideas, as you can imagine. Even though the house looks like this, we are having to make some major design decisions now. Tomorrow, I’ll be talking about my design plan for the house as a whole. What a big topic, but oh I’m excited!
