Home DecorFinishing Details in the Master Bedroom August 5, 2019 In each of our houses, it seems like we’ve put the finishing touches on just in time to sell. And while I’m bought in 100% to our adventure of selling to pay off debt, a part of me always wishes I had a bit more time to tweak and finish designing. Or to enjoy it for a bit after we do. I’m so excited about this new house when we’ll hopefully have a good bit more time to just settle in and rest. My dear friend Eileen has the most gorgeous, homey house. It’s designed so well and the details are just killer. Every single time I’m over there, it’s like welcome and beauty is just palpable in the air! I mentioned it to her recently…how her home felt to me and how I wished I could get mine there. I apologetically said I guess I’ve just been to tired after renovating and then take too big of a break before diving into that. And she said something that’s played in my mind ever since. She said I had to give myself grace and remember that it takes time. It took four years to get her house where it was then and that was lot of sitting with the house, seeing how it functioned best, and letting the design unfold over time. Whew. So it’s not just me?? That’s helped me to breathe a big sigh of relief and give myself time and space to do what I can and let our home evolve. Since we completed our addition last fall, our bedroom has sat fairly unfinished. Knowing we would likely be moving on in the near future kept me from wanting to buy specifically for this space. But not having a pretty bedroom that felt “right” wore on me. So, we decided to use what we had, buy a few things we knew we’d use again, and make it feel like us for however long we’re here. And now, it feels so special! Here’s our master bedroom, complete with all the pretty details I was longing for, over a year in the making. It’s painted Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter like the trim throughout the home. The wall color is Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. It is so calming and neutral so it goes with anything, but it still feels so special. I bought this vintage Persian rug from eBay for our bedroom in our last house. And I still love it so much. I knew it would find a home in here when we were planning the addition and it was the first thing we put back in! (check out my tips for buying vintage rugs on eBay here.) The ceiling, the rug, and the natural light…some of my very favorite things! Now, let’s talk about that bed. You guys, in nine years of marriage, this is the first “real” bed we’ve ever had. We’ve made headboards for all of our other bedrooms with a specific room design in mind and that has been great! I’ve loved what we came up with. But we’d both been longing for something classic and sturdy with a headboard and footboard. I’ve long loved these antique-style iron beds and scoured vintage stores for one for awhile. Then someone finally told me they didn’t make queen bed frames back then, so I was very unlikely to find one. Welp…there you go! Then, I found these Lark Manor beds on Wayfair and FELL IN LOVE. It’s been on my list for over a year. It has the vintage iron style I love and it is such amazing quality for the price. Plus, I love that they come in a variety of colors! I’ve got my eye on the steel blue or gray for the kids’ rooms in the next house! Pretty sure every bedroom may end up with one of these and I’m not even sorry I love them so much. Check out the colors it comes in below: Turn on your JavaScript to view content The artwork over the bed is one of my favorite pieces I own. It was my grandparents and it hung over the mantel in their house for as long as I can remember. Recently, I was going back through some old family photo albums at my parents and found their engagement pictures with this painting hanging in the background! The history of it is so special. But I also love the symbolism of it. My grandpa was a Baptist pastor for over 60 years and my grandmother was often the minister of music. They’re the type of people who minutes after meeting someone, know their name (and by gosh, they’ll remember it), and know their whole story. They have a warmth about them that has served them so well in their ministry and legacy. And the little white church in this painting reminds me so much of how they lived and how I hope to follow in their example. I wanted the furnishings to feel cozy, layered, and a bit subtle. So, I pulled two shades of green out of the painting for details: the hunter green for the lamps (these were thrift finds I spray painted, but here’s a similar option) and the sage for the lumbar pillows. I also wanted texture on top of the white bedding, so I threw on my DIY Moroccan Wedding Blanket and loved the texture of those cream pillows. I’ve hung those pretty lights up and within a few days, we’d broken out the box fan. We just need some air circulating to sleep well. So I’ve finally embraced it! Hunter Fan makes some of my favorite fans around and this one was perfect for what I wanted. A bit modern, clean and understated, but with stylish lines. The nightstands are from our last bedroom. They’re IKEA and we added the pulls to give them a little something. My nightstand has all the necessities: an alarm clock so I can leave my phone in the kitchen (but one that looks a little more stylish than the typical – found at Target!) A diffuser and all of our favorite sleep oils, plus the oils, chapstick, and lotion I use before bed. A plant, my favorite wedding picture. It’s a happy spot! The other side of the room is so pretty to me with the french doors and the glimpse of our master bath (a post to come soon about that!). We have his and hers closets flanking the door into the room and as y’all saw from our new house floor plans, we’re obsessed with separate closets! I think my husband would say that’s his #1 need on a house. The curtains are from our last living room. They’re white IKEA curtains that I added a little trim to. Overall, this space just makes me so happy now. I’m so glad I took the time and energy to make it a happy spot for us, even if we may not be here much longer! And I know that the few things I purchased for this space will absolute show up at The Buffalo Burrow. ***Speaking of moving on, I’ve gotten some messages and e-mails from local Greenville, SC friends about whether or not our house will be going up for sale. While we’ve strongly considered holding onto it as a rental (and really wish we could investment-wise), we know that God is saying to sell it. So if you’re local or know anyone who is and would like schedule a showing and get more info before we list it officially, shoot me an e-mail (thewhitebuffalostylingco@gmail.com). Tori says September 9, 2019 at 9:43 pm Lindsay I just love each of your homes and the story behind each one. Thanks so much for sharing so openly about your journey. This bedroom is gorgeous! You have been a huge style inspiration for me. I’ve actually been looking for a similar fan for our living room, and I love this one, however the link seems to go to a different fan with 4 blades. Do you have a link for the exact one you have? Thank you! Reply
