Burrow Master Bedroom Design Plans & Progress

Happy Monday, friends! It’s so fun to start sharing more of our vision for the Burrow as it’s taking shape. If you missed the whole house design plan, check that out here! I always nail it down first with a color palette and design vision and then I start designing rooms.

While I don’t have a complete vision for the master bedroom yet, a few things about it were decided as soon as that whole house design plan was complete! I love white walls, as y’all know. But I knew I wanted bits of color in places. And the master bedroom felt like a great place to do that!

Read more about this design plan for the Burrow here.

This house is getting a lot of sage greens in different shades and I knew I wanted to pull in some of the accent colors for the bedroom design. I was thinking one of those blue/grays for the walls and rust accents. I also wanted texture!

Three houses ago, we did floor-to-ceiling board and batten in our master bedroom and we loved the character it provided. We knew we wanted to bring something like that into our bedroom again. Here is how this space looks today!

Ahh, that thin floor-to-ceiling board and batten makes me happy, happy, HAPPY. Our bed will be centered in between these two windows here and we’ll have nightstands underneath the windows.

And we’re so excited about the huge, nearly wall-size window that looks out onto the trees!

This looks out onto our screened porch. We were initially going to make this a door, but the main door out onto the porch is right on the other side of our bedroom door. They’re about five feet apart! So, we decided to keep this as a window to maximize usable furniture spots on the porch. It isn’t huge, but it’s just right and we want to use every inch!

Our bedroom is a good size, but not huge. Just how we like our bedrooms! We do have plenty of clearance, though, for great size nightstands – they can be up to four feet wide if we want! And we have room for a bench at the foot of the bed and a dresser on the other wall if we want those things.

Speaking of that other wall, there’s some paint samples. I can’t believe how close we’re getting to painting!

My vision for this room was to paint all of the board and batten and trimwork a color. Basically, the ceiling will be the only thing that’s white. I wanted to pull a blue/gray out of the house design plan and really love both Sherwin Williams Magnetic Gray and Unusual Gray. They’re on the same paint chip and have the same tones, Unusual Gray is just slightly darker.

It also has to look good with the door color we’re doing throughout the house! I love them both with all three of the door options. We like all three of those for different reasons, but we’re leaning toward the top option: Sherwin Williams Conduit Gray. When you consider the entire house design, it seems to go best with all of the different colors and finishes throughout the home. We love doing the same color doors throughout the house and they’ll show up in nearly every room!

Here’s a first look at a vision for this space:

I said we’re going with Magnetic Gray above, but I made this a few days ago. After we keep staring at the samples, I think we’ll go with the bottom, slightly darker option of Unusual Gray. Though they’re really so close! We’re going to stare at those samples a little longer and let it settle.

We already have that neutral vintage rug from two houses ago and want to use it again somewhere. Right now, the subtle pattern and neutral, light color feels like a fit in here. Though, at some point, I may change it out for one of my colorful options! My goal for this space, and others throughout the house, is to go with foundational colors and pieces I love that I can then shift with accessories and details for each season. I absolutely love changing up my home, and bedding for that matter, by season. This wall color feels neutral and really versatile, so I think it meets that goal!

We got a new bed when we completed our addition last year and I love it. It’s an old-fashioned iron bed from Wayfair and I absolutely love the classic lines. Here it is in our current master bedroom.

I just saw it’s on a huge closeout sale and I’m so sad! I love this bed and wanted to get it in different colors for the kids rooms. I’m going to have to find another similar option for that, but if any of you are in the market for a classic iron bed, now’s a good time to grab it!

I love how the creamy/white of our bed will pop against the blue/gray walls. We got this white bedding as a wedding present ten years ago and have loved it. But it’s got a ton of wear and for years, I’ve wanted to get some high-quality linen bedding. I’d been watching Magic Linen’s bedding for awhile and got this Cinnamon bedding on a big Black Friday sale.

I’ve often said that rust is my very favorite color and it’s true. About 70% of my wardrobe is rust. I was ready for something richer than the white bedding I’ve had for ten years. And I love how this bedding contrasts with the bed and walls. It feels so cozy to me. I’ll lighten it up for spring and summer with different pillows and throws and richen it up even more come fall and the holidays. Magic Linen has so many gorgeous colors. One day I may add a lighter option duvet cover for the warmer months and switch it up.

I’m still nailing down other details in this space. I haven’t stressed as much about figuring out and collecting all the details for rooms knowing we’ll be here longer. It is so freeing! I am so excited to take it really slow and thrift and hunt for just the right pieces and let it evolve over time. But, I think I’m envisioning wood for the nightstands. I love for all rooms to have a little wood to bring in natural texture. And maybe some big chunky pottery lamps of some sort.

I’m also so excited for how this room and the master bath are going to flow together! I wanted them to not match, but coordinate and I love the two designs together!

Stay tuned for some big updates this week in the kitchen and dining spaces!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK! –> that is my excitement level over this room! LOVE those colors (really glad you went with the slightly darker wall color, not that my opinion matters ha ha), and that floor-to-ceiling batten is DREAMY. I’ve been more and more drawn to rust as an adult, and I love how you’re using it here.

Thank you friend! That makes me so happy you love it! I’m sooooooo happy over this blue/gray and the rust! Cannot wait to see it come together. I stumbled upon a box of vintage fabric at my mom’s and I should’ve photographed some of it for this post! Will have to share on social, but there are some vintage florals that have these colors and I can’t wait to whip up some pillows for this space!

I love the trim in your current master bedroom! We’re planning on painting in our bedroom this spring and I love how it looks! I may have missed where you mention it, but what is the paint color/brand?
