Our House Befores

I’m so excited to share “Before’s” of our new house today.

Not excited because they’re so gorgeous and exciting, but because it’s going to be such a transformation in my head!

Forgive all of our stuff that is STILL in the pictures.  We’re getting a shed, but until we do, we still have a decent amount of stuff in the house.  Hopefully, I’ll get more before shots of some of this once the stuff is moved.  But we had to get started even though we didn’t have a shed yet.

I’m going to do a little describing of what these pictures are, but these will pop up again and again as we have in-progress and after shots.

Remember the Before Floorplan I posted last week?

Life of Splendor Cottage Floorplan BEFORE

I think re-visualizing that will help you understand where these pictures are as I show them.

So, when you walk in the front door, here’s the view.

Very closed off with a tiny door right now (remember, that whole wall will be removed!).  Here are a few more shots of that front room.

The view of the front door:

Love that they stapled foam around the doors for “insulation.”  Kind of cracks me up.

Then, if you go through that room, you enter the living room.

The laundry room is a closet that has been built to jut out into the living room.  We’re ripping that out.

That closet will be removed to give more space to the living room.

Here’s the other side of the room:

The new kitchen will be behind that wall, so the whole wall will be gone!

Here’s the tiny current kitchen.  It actually feels bigger in the photo than in person.

And our current tiny eating area.

This whole back of the house (current kitchen and dining) will be the dining.

Here’s the sideroom (that is currently a “master bedroom” and will be our kitchen”).

And the wall that will be removed and will look into the living room:

This room was a garage, so it currently steps down, but we’re fixing that!

This room is the only carpeted room in the house.  Lovely, old, dirty carpet 🙁

One end has this closet, which will be removed to create a mudroom.

And onto the guest bath, which is currently the only bathroom in the house.

I actually like the tile!

And last, I want to show you the back of the house.  This will be changing a whole lot once the addition starts.

I really love our backyard…it just needs grass!  Gracie gets so dirty playing back there.

I love the big trees and Gracie sure loves having a fenced in yard.  Her parents just don’t love cleaning her up every time she comes inside.

And the gorgeous back of our house.

The back is pretty rough to me, especially these stairs.

But, the addition is coming right off this area, so it will all go away!

I know it’s pretty rough right now, but that makes me all the more excited!  The afters will look so much better compared to these befores 🙂

It’s funny…when we were looking at houses, the worse it looked, the more excited we got because that meant a huge transformation!

We’ve had several people see the house and say, “Wow, y’all are so brave to live here.”  I’m like, “Really?  Just because it’s ugly?”  I know it needs work and living there while we fix it is definitely an adventure already, but we are sooo excited that the process of making this our home is beginning.

Speaking of that, demolition began over the weekend and the contractor started yesterday.

The kitchen area looks so different than these photos already!  I’ll post updated progress pics tomorrow…

Yay! I love “before” pictures because it makes the finally product so much more exciting! Know you’ll have so much fun with this whole process. Thanks for sharing!

I LOVE the before pictures!!! So much potential, and love the floors in the living room. We break the “before” pics out of our own house every now and then when friends come over and want to see them…….they can’t believe it is the same house. And you know what???? I can’t BELIEVE it is the same either!!!! I love that hubby and I transformed this ugly duckling.

Once when I was having a yard sale this lady stopped by. She said she wanted to “meet” the individual who took on this house. When I asked why, she replied that she and her husband had looked at the house about 6 months before we bought it and she said “I told my husband someone would have to PAY me to buy that house.” “But now that it has changed I am in love with it.” She also said she just couldn’t see past the ugly.

It wasn’t always easy, but it WAS FUN! Don’t loose heart, your one of those who can “see past the ugly” 🙂

Hugs to you, Jennifer

Great befores! Man, y’all have vision. Sometimes I wish we’d bought something more rundown/with more fix-up potential, but then I think how long it took us to even paint the exterior (and the trim still isn’t finished…) and how busy Kurt is with cycling in the summer, and I’m glad. Because the house would still be a “before” I’m sure. Also, you have great doors! They are attractive and look like solid wood. An advantage of old houses. 🙂

Kristina! I totally know what you’re saying about how long it takes to finish projects and um…y’all have a baby now, so imagine fixing up a house with a little one! That’s why we’re doing this now 🙂 And thankfully, we have some help on this one…it’s way too big a project to do ourselves.

There is so much potential in this cottage! And you’re just the people to see it and make it shine!

And I looooove the bathroom tile!

Thank you so much, Kris! You are so kind to say that we can make it “shine.” I do hope so 🙂 Glad you see the potential too…I know it’s buried deep, but it’s there!

Thanks Whitney! I know it’s a lot of work, but having contractors help us instead of doing it all ourselves as we did in the last house is amazing!!! I’m posting progress shots today and I am in awe of how much has happened in four days! It’s definitely stressful living in chaos, but hopefully, it will be short-lived chaos 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment! Let’s definitely meet up at Allume. It is so awesome meeting new bloggers. I will be sure to start reading your blog.

Can I just say that the tile in the bathroom is adorable!!!!

Thanks so much Megan! Can’t wait to meet you at Allume and thanks for popping over here. LOVE what I saw on your blog about homeschool and some other things and can’t wait to keep reading!
