The Burrow Master Bath Goes Olive

Hey friends! I am so excited to share our master bath painted this gorgeous olivey green – HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams Conduit Grey. I really wanted to go dark and moody in our bath since so much of the house is light. I do like contrast and mixing it up here and there. But I knew that all dark can make a room feel small. Sometimes you want that cozy smaller feeling in a space. But bathrooms are tighter spaces and I wanted to bring in elements to also lighten it up.

Get ready for a lot of GIF’s you guys, because I am loving the before and afters in this space! This isn’t a complete reveal. There are many details still to come, but you will get to see the lights and vanity installed!

So much amazing progress! I could not be happier with this paint color. I wanted something that felt olive without being too green. I was looking for a green that could also read neutral. And Conduit Grey is even better than I’d hoped.

I snapped a few the night that the beadboard was all sprayed green and it made such an immediate difference.

First, the whole room was primed as you saw in yesterday’s beadboard post. Then, they sprayed all of the trimwork. We went with semi-gloss on all of the beadboard and trim. We like for our woodwork to have a little shine and it’s more cleanable.

Once the trim was finished, they cut in around all the trim with our cream paint and then rolled the walls. Trim can be so hard to paint around, especially more intricate trim like we have here around the top of our doors and windows. My biggest tip for that is to have a good quality paint brush. It really makes all the difference in the world! Our favorite are Purdy brushes.

To make a space feel larger, there have to be some light elements. Some will tell you that you need to go all light with paint colors and finishes or it will feel closed in. I don’t agree with that! I think that a mix of dark anchors and light contrast can work really well to make a space feel larger. My general rule of thumb is to go darker on the bottom, light on the top. In our room, the darker color on the bottom grounds and anchors the space. Going with light cream on top really opens the room up. Light up top makes the room feel taller where a dark color up top feels heavy and gives the illusion of shorter ceilings. The white we used in here is HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams Bohemian Lace. This is the same white we used throughout our house and I love the creamy tones of it, while it’s still white.

Remember, our big “challenge” with this space was having so many doors (four!) in a small space. We designed the beadboard and chose to paint it all the same color including the doors to help them blend and feel purposeful. And they completely do! You’re getting fun glimpses of our lighting in here! I am so in love with the lighting we chose. I decided to go all creamy white with the lights since there was so much dark on the bottom with the tile and green paint. I wanted to do all cream up top to make the space feel larger and opened up. If I’d gone with dark lights, they would’ve weighted down the space.

These lanterns down this “hallway” remind us so much of our favorite Southern city, Savannah.

There are so many details still to do in here like turning that back lantern to match the front. Don’t worry, they will hang the same way! It just needs tweaking. I can’t wait to get my bench in and really play up this view like I’d pictured.

One thing I was really excited to see was the tile choices with my olive green. Look at that marble tile with the green beadboard!

There is so much dimension in the tile and I love how the green walls really pull it out. And I’m pretty obsessed with the black patterned floor tile against the green.

Now, who’s ready to see the vanity area?

I love how the light wood of the vanity really contrasts with the walls. We still have some tweaks to make in this area and I’ll talk more about the vanity in a future post when I cover function and storage in here. But I really love how it turned out! It’s the same Diamond line of cabinets that we did in the kitchen! I love how it has ball feet to look like furniture and how it fits this space so perfectly. I love that we got to design a custom vanity to fit the space just right and provide the storage we need.

We went with a marble top and I love how it lightens and ties with the shower tile. And my mirrors! I’m so glad that we built them in with the green to blend. Those vanity lights are one of my favorite details. They’re cream with a little gold accent. I love that they blend in to the cream, but still have such pretty lines.

And the pegs!!!

I just threw up a quick basket and towel to show give you guys the feel, but I can’t wait to really use these for pretties and for major function.

There are so many things that are making me happy about this space, y’all. I’m head over heels for the tile choices now that I’ve seen it come all together. The beadboard, pegs, and green paint is just right. But most of all, I’m in love with the layout! And I never thought I’d say that. I always felt like this room would feel like the “compromise” of the house…the leftover spot. And I just resolved that was okay. Every house has something. But y’all, I am so happy that I kept fighting to make the space work despite the layout because now that “weird” hallway and even the doors is my absolute favorite thing!

Now, I can’t wait to bring in our stuff and really layer it on. While we’ve been using this bathroom since we moved in a few weeks ago, the vanity is empty and not organized. And I can’t wait to bring on all of the other details I’ve pictured in here!
