Our Sitting Room

So, I’m not really sure what to call this room that is right inside our front door.

Sitting room?  Keeping room?  I’ve been calling it the front room and that has to be the most uncreative and dumb name ever.  So, it needs to change.  I’m open to suggestions 🙂

I realized that I haven’t posted about this room yet even though it’s already in our home tour, so here goes!

On one side, you have my desk, and on the other you have the fireplace and this little sitting area I’ve put together.  For some odd reason, previous home owners closed up the fireplace.  Thankfully, it’s in our plan to open that baby up!  So, I want a cozy little sitting area to chat by a fire at night.

I love having a mantle to style!

FRONT ROOM 2

Especially since it’s open to the living room.  I really love these beams that now case the opening.  There used to be a wall here…I’m working on some before and after posts to share 🙂

And plants…I am such a firm believer that every room needs plants.  That’s the little details that we never got to in our last house before selling and I am so excited to get to them now!

This is currently my favorite room in the house.  I am loving the mix of bohemian and a little country

…mixed with my fave, mid-century modern.

I really think this room has the best mix of my style so far.

My favorite part has got to be that rug.  Read about how I “stole” that rug here.  Now, that’s a crazy story 🙂

In other news , I am so honored and blessed to officially be a new contributor over at The Handmade Home starting today.  Y’all, when I met Ashley at Haven, I was completely blown away by how down to earth and wonderful she is!

Then, when I got an e-mail from her a week later with this proposition, I almost died.  I did cry a little bit.  Okay, a lot.  I saw the e-mail at just the right time when I was a bit down.  My husband thought I was having a stroke and it took me like ten minutes to even relay what the e-mail said.

Anyway, I’m so happy to be posting over there!  She is unbelievable and I’ve read her blog for like three years, so it’s a bit surreal for me.

Today, I’m sharing a current home tour, a little bit about me, and a couple of my favorite parties I’ve done.

Oooooh…so ridiculously, stupidly happy and excited for you and your new business venture, blog, and partnership! So many good things….so many good things!!! Eeeeee…you are amazing! Just thought you should know. And your home is just as amazing! That doorway is ridiculous!!!! When you’re done with your home can you come to Maine and do ours? Please?

Thank you so much, Angie! You are such a sweet friend. We’ve been on this journey for a long time together and I’m so grateful! And I do not need to come to Maine, because you have such awesome style yourself!!! And so excited for the big things you have going on too!

Hi there, I have been ready your blog for about 2 months now. I love that you share your mishaps, what inspires you, and the challenges you have had to dealt with. I am notorious in getting something for the home and then returning it. It has been a challenge to find my style. I also love the mid-century style, bohemian, but not so much country. Perhaps, rustic/industrial…anyhow, my point is that I might have felt alone a couple of months ago, driving my husband crazy with my indecisiveness but I have realized through your blog and others that it takes time to find one’s style. So thank you!

Wow, thank you, Veronica!!! You seriously just made my day! I really love what I do and my only goal is to hopefully help others through sharing our journey, but it’s so easy to feel like you’re just talking to yourself. Thank you for showing me I’m not alone today!!!

I mean…Lindsay!!! SO EXCITED for you!!! Congratulations!!! And I have to say that your style is so perfectly you…I absolutely LOVE it and you have the best eye. Love all the mismatched styles together which can be really hard to do, but you do it effortlessly! So so happy for you…you are going to go SO FAR!!!! 😉 xoxo!!!!

Jesse, thank you so much, sweet friend! You just made my day and brought a tear to my eye with your sweet text and now your comment. So glad to have you as a real life and blog bestie. You’re so awesome and such an encouragement!!! Xoxo

So, I am a huge fan! I just discovered your blog and I’m sure will be going through all the pages whilst neglecting to feed my kids. Only kidding, I will feed them. 🙂 I think you should dub your sitting room the lounge !

Congratulations. The Handmade Home….that’s amazing!
And the fireplace will be even more amazing when you open it up. Love what you have on the mantel.

How about a parlor? It’s kinda like that, right?

Also, I’m starting a campaign in Casa de Atkins to do our patio like yours, though we’ll use the flagstone we have already. But I’m so in love with your string lights! I’m sure Kurt will come ’round, especially given the high cost and extensive work a concrete, roofed patio would require and the fact that we’d only enjoy it for a year (hopefully!). Here’s hoping!
