UncategorizedRosie’s White Antler Chandelier February 17, 2015I’m learning a valuable lesson as I’m adjusting to this whole mommy thing: everything is different now. And I’m totally good with that, but I definitely have to adjust. I had planned to reveal the nursery yesterday. When I said that on Friday, I had one tiny DIY left to finish and with no weekend plans, I had no doubt it was more than possible to finish. I mean, last spring, I finished my Home Depot Patio Style Challenge and an entire round of CWTS filled with DIY’s in about four days. Well, what I hadn’t bargained for was little Miss Rosie’s growth spurt. She ate solid (and I do mean solid) and unfortunately, it’s hard to DIY with a little person attached to you around the clock. I know I’ll get adjusted and figure out my new blogging normal, but I’m trying to give myself grace and remind myself that Rosie is three weeks old. I have to figure her out and how that will affect my work, so I really appreciate y’all’s patience as I ease back in. I decided to go ahead and share one of my absolute favorite parts of the nursery while we’re waiting to get it finished, photographed, and officially revealed: Rosie’s White Antler Chandelier. When I found the curtain fabric, I was so in love. I knew that vibrant floral curtains would make such a statement and they bring such a sweet, feminine touch to her room. But y’all know me. Everywhere I bring in some feminine, there has to be a touch of rustic/masculine/something with an edge, even in a little girl’s nursery. I began searching for just the right thing. I’ve been dreaming of a white antler chandelier for so long. You usually see natural antler chandeliers in browns and tans, but I’ve seen just a few white ones. {via} To me, a white antler chandelier really sums up my style. The rustic edge of the antlers, but seen in a clean, white palette is the perfect mix. I’ve long wanted to DIY one from my antler collection and maybe I will at some point. As I was finishing up Rosie’s nursery, I hadn’t figured out the light fixture yet. I had planned to go with a more girly chandelier option, but something was missing in the room. I kept looking around at all of the elements and realized I was missing “the edge.” I had the gorgeous floral curtains and a lot of sweet elements, but I was missing that unexpected edge to balance them. I immediately thought of an antler chandelier, but knew I needed a small one and didn’t have time or quite enough antlers to DIY one and Miss Rosie was coming soon. I came across this small antler chandelier from Home Depot. It’s not real antlers, but I liked the feel and shape of it. And it just happened to be the exact right size. It’s big enough to make a statement, but allows clearance for us to walk easily underneath. We put it together and it was time for paint! We gave it a coat of Rustoleum Primer and then two coats of Rustoleum’s Gloss White. To me, a sheen would give it more of a finished feel than flat white. As soon as we hung it, I knew it was the finishing touch this room needed! It’s brings in a rustic element, but the white softens it. And the view of that chandelier with the floral curtains behind it makes me squeal with style delight! It’s the perfect depiction of my style and what I love. This room is obviously for our little Rosie and I picture her like myself: a girl who loves girly and floral, but who craves a little outdoorsy edge. Granted, they may not be how she turns out at all once she’s grown up, but odds are in our favor growing up in this family. Yes, white antlers and vibrant floral, how I love you together. The rest of the nursery will be coming soon, I promise, though I learned my lesson not to promise an exact date right now. Newborns don’t seem to want to fit on our schedules, who would’ve guessed? But I promise, the whole room and how it came together will be worth the wait! It’s one of my favorite rooms I have ever designed with such a perfect, and I think unexpected, mix of patterns, colors, and styles. Stay tuned, friends!

Carole @ Rustic Artistry says February 18, 2015 at 1:03 pm I love that transformation. Painting something that we always associate with it’s natural color really transforms it into something completely unique. I feel the same way about the twig chandeliers on Rustic Artistry — when they’re painted white they have a completely different vibe and can be used in a totally different setting where a natural colored one just wouldn’t look right. Here’s are 2 great example photos: http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a482/carolerains/piano_bellacasa2_thumb1_zps42b3af9e.png http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a482/carolerains/3299dbffd8128a5194c170925e102f71_zps853c7489.jpg Reply

Lindsay says February 27, 2015 at 1:02 pm Thanks so much Shelly! Oh I believe this time goes fast! Last night, I realized that newborn clothes no longer fit her and I might’ve shed a tear over that one! Of course, I want her to grow and be healthy, but it’s sad to see the visible passing of time 🙁 Reply
