Home DecorRosie’s New Nursery August 14, 2015 Sweet little Rosie’s room is the last room we re-did in this house. We finished it right before she was born and I love spending time in here. You can see the full reveal post here. When I was designing this room, I knew we would be selling the house at some point. I didn’t realize it would be so soon, but I did consider that as I designed. The one major thing that I knew might change was the DIY Watercolor kilim wall. I do love this wall! I painted it almost a year before Rosie came during my time on Creating with the Stars. You can find a tutorial for this design here. But I wasn’t sure I would want to repaint it or want the exact same thing in the next house. As I really started designing the next house, I realized that nearly every single room was going to be white. That’s the way I do things around here! And for some reason, I wanted a color in Rosie’s room. I wanted to use most of the same furnishings, but I did want her room to feel a little different. The curtains are obviously the statement maker in this room and THEY ARE STAYING. I love these. So I started thinking about what color I would want the walls with these curtains and with the rest of the furnishings. I kept going back to the green color in the kilim wall. I love this deep, tealy green and I love how the curtains look against it. This exact color isn’t in the curtains, which I like. It isn’t too matchy for me. But the dark color will really make the curtains and furnishings stand out. We chose Verdigris by Benjamin Moore. Here is her room all painted and almost ready for her! I love how the white trim pops against the color and I can just picture those big bright windows framed by my beloved floral curtains. I love that Rosie’s room has an original fireplace even though it’s been bricked over. I have a plan to cover that! And the hearth area on the floor will be painted too. But my plan is to really make this wall a huge focal point. I’m going to do some huge statement art over the fireplace and this area will be the reading nook most likely. The fireplace has a worn white finish naturally, which I’m in love with! We’re going to poly it and keep that chippy character. I love the medium-toned wood and white from Rosie’s crib against this color and the peach accents look awesome. Some of the furnishings will be changing a little big like you can see in the description above. I’m going to paint the changing table white and keep the peach shades. I’m looking for a bigger mirror to go over this. Rosie LOVES looking at herself in the mirror and the one we currently have is very small. I love the silver flecked cowhide that is currently in Rosie’s room, but I might like for a larger neutral one to layer under it. This room is a good bit bigger than Rosie’s nursery now, so the cowhide would be really small. Plus, I think as Rosie starts to crawl and walk, a softer floor would be helpful. I realize painting a little girl’s nursery dark green is an interesting choice, but I’m all about choosing the unexpected. And I love the picture of it all together in my head. This is actually the first room I designed in this house. I picked the paint color right up front and knew how I wanted to finish it. Granted, it helped that I had most of the items already. I realize this dark green is showing up a lot in The Buffalo Bungalow, but it was in my whole house design plan! I apparently wasn’t joking about this pretty color. Lindsay says August 14, 2015 at 4:02 pm Thanks Cheryl! I’m so glad to hear from someone who’s lived with teal and loved it! It’s more of a forest green in person, but there is a hint of blue-green in it. I know it’ll be awhile before Rosie can appreciate her room, but I sure do love it! Reply

Julia at Home on 129 Acres says August 14, 2015 at 11:57 am I’ll add my voice to the chorus: I love the teal. If we ever have a nursery here, dark teal with white and natural wood accents is my plan. I’m drawing lots of inspiration from your design. Looking forward to seeing it all come together. Reply

Melissa Sorci Taft / Feather Your Nest says August 15, 2015 at 9:33 am I never was a pink girl’s room kind of person, so I love the teal. It will be cool that her room will have much more personality due to your creative and very pretty choices! Hooray for you and can’t wait to see the finished room! Reply
Sherri says August 15, 2015 at 1:01 pm Love that forest green. Your Rosie is going to have such elegance along with coziness in her room. It reminds me how Housetweaking did Mabrey’s room using a dark blue gray. Have always liked that space. I like that you are using colors outside the “popular” ones. The peach is fabulous also. You are an original through and through! Reply
