EntertainingRosie’s 2nd Birthday Pink Party February 27, 2017Y’all, I am so thankful to be sitting at my computer this morning writing this post to you guys! A week and a half ago, my computer’s hard dried crashed and it’s taken until yesterday to try and fix it, fail multiple times, order a new one, and get it up and running. It sure is disorienting for a blogger to not have a computer to work on. I’m so glad to be back in the saddle, so to speak. And it’s just in time for a fun post! I considered a lot of different themes for Rosie’s 2nd Birthday Party. When it all came down to it, I wanted to do something she would love! Rosie has been OBSESSED with the color pink for awhile now. She points out every single pink thing she sees, so it was only fitting to throw her a fun little Pink Party. This was a crazy year when it came to Rosie’s birthday with things going on with family and in our lives. While I did plan the theme and decorations ahead of time, it was a different year for sure. We didn’t send invitations, we sent texts out one week in advance when we finally found a date that might work and we decided to just go for it! For most everything we bought, I tried to pick double-duty items to save money. I’m in the early stages of designing Rosie’s big girl room since a lot of her room now will go to the new baby. So this is a little glimpse of some things you’ll see in that space. Rosie loves pink flowers so much. She kept looking at this and saying, “Pink Flowers!” with so much amazement. I tried to do the full spectrum of pinks on this to tie the other pinks in the party decor together. For the food, we chose some of our easy breakfast favorites and of course had to have Rosie’s favorites: berries and bacon. For drinks, we kept it simple and did our favorite Trader Joe’s juice (Orange, Banana, Strawberry) and water. But the best part of the drinks were serving them in these little glass milk bottles with pink striped straws and pink and white sprinkled cookies (also from Trader Joe’s!). One of the first things I found for her party were the coral paper products and doughnut napkins from Land of Nod. I REALLY wish those weren’t disposable! For the rest of the backyard decor, we kept it pretty simple. We put a little pink tablecloth and some flowers on our picnic table for adults. The wind was not our friend, so if you see things blown about, that’s why! But it kept us cool….who would’ve thought we could have a warm sunny backyard party in February?! We made a sweet little kids area for Rosie and her friends. We used a plastic kids table my parents had and added a pink rose tablecloth (fabric from Hobby Lobby). We did a basket of crayons as the centerpiece and scattered some fun, floral coloring pages. Some of y’all may remember the old barn door Chris got me for our first wedding anniversary. It was 9-feet tall with big panes above what you see here. The wind blew it over in our last backyard and the top part split, but I can’t bear to get rid of the rest of it! I decorated it up for the kids section with a garland I made for our Valentine’s tour and my favorite new find ever: the pink Mingo, as Rosie calls her. I’ll just go ahead and tell you, she WILL be in the big girl room π This area was a big hit with Rosie’s buddies. We made little lounge areas around with benches and pink pillows we had. I picked up those pink wrapped chocolate roses at Target right after Valentine’s Day and they served as our favors: “Roses from Rosie.” The screened porch got a lot of use as well for extra seating and a spot to rest! When we did this project, this was exactly what I envisioned: backyard bashes with friends, kids running around, and good food. You may see we’ve rearranged some in here…I’ll do a little post on that soon! And of course, there was cake! There is just something about baking for your babies that gets me. I made a homemade vanilla and strawberry cake that is a new favorite around here! I’ll be sharing the recipe for this simple dairy free strawberry buttercream icing soon! I topped it with a few faux flowers left over from Rosie’s “R.” Rosie wasn’t sure about all of the attention coming her way during “Happy Birthday,” but she sure loved the cake. I came across this maroon and pink floral dress for me and knew it was perfect for the party! It isn’t maternity, but has an empire waist and flowy shape, so I knew it would work now and work after baby when flowy is your friend! I’ve already worn this on two date nights and now for her party. It’s a new favorite for sure! While I want to do that everyday, special occasions are when it really comes to life! And I’d say she had a pretty good day that we’ll all remember (well maybe not Rosie, but we’ll show her pictures). Oh my sweet Rosie girl, you’ll have my heart forever. Yes, that often means tablescapes, inspiring interiors, and fun before and after renos. But it also means family. Faith. Joy. Struggles. Laughter. Health. You’ll find a little bit of all of that here as I share how we’re choosing to live with both style and purpose. A huge part of that is our journey toward a more natural life that’s focused on enjoying each and every moment together. A huge thanks to my main blog sponsor that makes this dream of mine possible:
