UncategorizedNew Cottage Floorplan February 27, 2013I’m so excited to share the floorplan of our new cottage today! Thanks for the feedback on Floorplanner and Google Sketchup. Floorplanner seemed easy enough, so I used it. I couldn’t make it do exactly what I wanted, but I got it close enough so that y’all can get the idea of where rooms are and what we’re planning. I did this to scale as much as possible, but Floorplanner wouldn’t let me alter the sizes on a few things – still learning this program! So, the written sizes are correct. Here’s the floorplan currently: And here’s the After: As you can see, we’re taking out a lot of the walls in the main areas. The front room, which has a fireplace, will be open to the rest of the house, but it still feels like it’s its own little room. So, it will stay a sitting area with the fireplace in there, but will also be an office/family computer area. As you go back into the house, we’re getting rid of the wall between what was the master bedroom and the living room. We’re moving the kitchen to the previous master bedroom, so we will have a much bigger, spacious kitchen. Yay! That will also allow us to add an exterior door right off the driveway for us to enter. Down the front side of that room (where there is no gray for kitchen cabinets), there will be a mudroom and organization area. So excited to have that! We will be knocking out what was the laundry room closet. It just stuck out into the living room, so that will give us more space in the living room. The dining room will then take up the whole back area that was a tiny dining room and kitchen before. Open floor plan, here we come! We’re leaving the hallway, guest bedrooms, and guest bath the same footprint, but will be updating them. Then, the addition…oh how excited I am about this part. There will be a cased opening off of the dining room that leads to a hallway. To the right will be a small laundry room with double opening closet doors. That hallway will then go into our master, which will have a master bathroom off of it. We’ve chosen his and hers walk-in closets instead of one large one just based on how much room was left over from the bed and bath. Even though they’re small, they’re just for one person and we’re going to be very smart about how we organize the storage shelves, etc. Exciting! And maybe my most favorite part of all…across from the laundry room in the hallway to our bedroom, is a door to our covered porch. We will have a large (size still to be determined) covered porch off the back of the house with enough room for an outdoor dining and sitting area. I absolutely can’t wait to have a covered, private outdoor space. In the last house, we had a large deck, but with the way the lot was, we had absolutely no privacy. It almost felt like you were on a stage for the neighbors to watch. So needless to say, we didn’t stay out there that much… We can’t wait to have a place to hang out! Well, that’s our floor plan before and after. Now, when I talk about rooms and details, you’ll have a frame of reference for where it is in the house. We close on the house tomorrow! So, this weekend we’ll be ripping out a bunch of those walls. I can’t wait to see it all opened up!
