UncategorizedMy Fabric Table May 11, 2012Today, I’m going to talk about this end table in the sunroom: The table started out like this: It’s a particle board table that I found for $7 at a thrift store. It didn’t look like much then, but I had seen this fabric covered table at Ballard Designs and thought I could just make a cover for it: {source} I first posted about this find on a Thrifty Find Friday a while back. Speaking of, I think I should bring back Thrifty Find Fridays. I really enjoyed that. What do y’all think? Anyway, back to the table. I knew we could make this instead of buying an expensive tablecloth. But my mom gave me an even more brilliant idea. I picked out a cream textured fabric at Wal-mart that was $2.00. I figured out how much I needed just to be the skirt, so to speak. I was going to make a topper. I laid it out in a strip: I measured the height of the table and figured out what the length needed to be to go around the circumference. I cut it to fit. Then, I started taping it to the table. I ducktaped the top of it around the table and it hung down perfectly like a table skirt. I left the bottom a little frayed, which I like. Then, I just needed a topper. My mom so sweetly made me a square topper to lay on top out of ticking stripe fabric like this: {source} And it quickly, easily, and cheaply became this: I love how it turned out and I love the price tag…the version from Ballard Designs would’ve cost about $150 for the table and tablecloth. I have $20 in this when you count buying the table and both fabrics. Not too shabby… I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend! We’re having some friends come into town because she and I are graduating from our MFA tomorrow…crazy! I’ll have some details and pictures of the weekend to share on Monday.
