UncategorizedMore Party Details June 25, 2012I hope you all had a great weekend! We did. It was very relaxing after finally finishing up my class! I’m so glad to finally have my summer break 🙂 Thanks so much for all of your sweet feedback on the party. I’m so honored and glad that you guys liked it so much. Here are some more shots of the party’s food and family. We wanted the food choices to make sense and go along with the nautical party decor… We went with one of my dad’s favorites: a low country boil. Have y’all had this? It really is so simple, but so good! All you need is shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, and of course, some Old Bay seasoning! Here he is cooking it for us. I love that he was the cook on his birthday! He’s the best, though. It was delicious. My mom had these orange buckets, so we filled them up with our dinner. You usually dump a low country boil down the center of the table, but with our centerpiece, that didn’t work. We set it up on a nearby table so we could serve ourselves buffet style. We found this little girl leaned up on the table a couple of times trying to get a taste. Thankfully, we caught her in time and the dinner was saved just for us. Everyone had a really great time. Here I am with the birthday boy: I love my dad. Here’s dad with his three girls: Him and my mom: We had a great time around the table, enjoying some good food and talking. After dinner, we enjoyed dad’s cake. Remember the picture of him with his first fish? Here was dad’s reaction to his cake: Needless to say, he loved it. He opened a few presents and cards… …including the message in a bottle from mom. Inside, the “message” told him about his gift. She took him on a weekend getaway to hear one of his favorite blue grass bands playing in a cavern in Tennessee. Pretty cool! After dinner, we sat around and played some music… These two sang. They are both talented musicians and sound beautiful together. We stayed out, sitting by a fire and listening to the music well past dark. This is why I love candlelight and lanterns. It takes on such a magical feel after the sun sets. It was beautiful. Thanks for stopping by, y’all!

Megan Shipman says June 27, 2012 at 3:27 pm Did you get inspiration for your dad’s party from an issue of Better Homes & Gardens? I was reading through an issue that I had not gotten to previously and I saw a 4th of July get together that reminded me of this! Reply
