UncategorizedKitchen Progress June 19, 2013Today I wanted to share a few kitchen updates that are currently making me happy. I spent some time accessorizing the open shelves, but have done very little to the rest of the kitchen. I haven’t set up the counter tops like I want them, but did take time to set out this drying rack I got last Christmas. I love these simple white mugs with navy stripes. This is making me happy. I also put down the rug, which is making me really, really happy. Here’s an up close of the pattern. I found this rug on eBay back in January and fell so in love with it. We didn’t even have this house yet, but I knew that I wanted a large kilim runner in it. This one is 3×10. Yes, I totally recognized that it may not fit in our future kitchen, but I was determined to make it work. I bid on it and won for $200. It’s a vintage Turkish Kilim from the early 1900’s. Expensive purchase for me, but not a bad price at all for what it is. And guess what? It’s the perfect size. We have big plans for a wood island and I absolutely can’t wait to build it, but until we do, the farmhouse kitchen table I got on the Longest Yard Sale last year is holding it’s place. It’s way too small for the space, but it’s good to just have the work space there. I know it’s only temporary and isn’t right for the space, but I’m loving using it. We hadn’t had a place for it until now and have had it almost a year. After we built the new, bigger island, I’m definitely finding a little corner to keep using this. I love the green base and the galvanized metal top. Well, there are some kitchen updates. There is still so much to do in this room to be “finished” as it is in my head. Notice the title of this post said “Kitchen Progress” not “Kitchen Reveal.” But we’re moving in the right direction. Still on the To Do List is to figure out the hood wall (notice I didn’t show it in these posts at all). Right now, all that’s on that wall is the stainless hood over the stove. I’m picturing a cabinet/coffee station area, some art, and another shelf or so. The mudroom area by the pantry hasn’t even been thought about yet and if you look really close, you’ll see drawer fronts missing, hardware missing, and who knows what else in the photos that I showed yesterday and today. But it’s progress people. And I’m excited.
