UncategorizedGuest Post Day 2- Kristen's Master Bedroom July 24, 2012Welcome to the second day of Guest Posts in our Week of House Tours! I’m so thankful for these six ladies who are sharing their homes with us while I’m away in Nicaragua. Today, we have Kristen from Life with the Wilsons . Kristen and I first met at a youth camp we were working at in college and I am so happy that we have reconnected through the blogging world. She is so sweet and has a huge heart. She recently did a wreath tutorial for us, so if you missed it, you can check that out here. We’re so glad to have her back on the blog! Here’s her post and her master bedroom tour in her own words: *** Hi everyone! I’m so thankful that Lindsay opened up her blog for guest posts for a number of reasons. One, it means she is gone on a mission trip and we have that in common – a heart for missions! Since we both served at the same youth camp, we share a love for youth and serving other people. It also meant that with this opportunity came the motivation to blog about our master bedroom…motivation I’ve needed for a long time! Lindsay asked us to share about our favorite room in our home and I would say our bedroom is definitely one of my favorites! My husband and I spend a good amount of time in this room, reading, blogging, and relaxing. It also has the greatest number personal touches out of all our rooms in our home (so far…still working on that)! There are several labors of love all in this one room – some of which my mom helped me with! She is the creative one in our family and I know I got all of my DIY genes from her! When working on the design for our room, I knew I wanted a place that welcomed us when we came home from long days. I also wanted to be sure we had enough space for both of our clothes! For all of you who are married, you know what it’s like to combine two people’s wardrobes! The one thing I wish we could change but can’t due to apartment restrictions is the wall color – no painting allowed! I would definitely say it’s a work in progress but I’m loving the way the room has come together! This is what you see when you first walk in. I love this little reading nook. The small gallery wall seen is one of my favorites because it has one of my bridal portraits and one of my favorite pictures from our wedding – a sweet reminder of our perfect day! The bench doubles as storage and as another seating area. It looks clean now, but usually it holds stacks of folded clothes or my purse, etc. You’ll start to notice that I sort of have a bird obsession and I’m thankful my husband doesn’t mind them! Our headboard cushion was hand made by my talented mother! We picked out the fabric and the voila! she just created this beautiful cushion. The shelf came from my parent’s master bedroom. After they re-did their room and didn’t want this piece, I gladly took it off their hands, repainted it, and instantly got the inspiration for our headboard. I love the collection of things on it – all sort of represent things we love. The lamps are from TJ Maxx (my favorite store) and the side table is also a hand-me-down from my parents! Here is the detailing of the fabric – I really am in love with the fabric! On the other side of the bed is another labor of love – one of our sets of drawers. The original piece was white and used in my nursery as a baby and we decided to paint it teal when I was in college and distress it. My creative mother helped me and I love how it turned out! You’ll also see a few more of my bird pieces! A close up shot of the distressing – I am planning on doing this to the second set of drawers in our bedroom, which are not pictured here. It was also a hand-me-down from my grandparent’s house. I love that the staple furniture in our room has all been a part of my life from the very beginning! Unfortunately, at the time we painted the dresser in the pictures, I was not wise to the world of DIY blogs and I do not have before and after pictures. I definitely will take these pictures when I paint the second set of drawers! So that’s our master bedroom, there are still several things on my list to add for finishing touches and I can’t wait to see how it all takes shape! Thanks to Lindsay for letting me share and I hope you enjoyed the tour! *** Thank you so much Kristen! I love that distressed piece of furniture you did – beautiful, beautiful job!!!! It looks great 🙂 Y’all leave some love for Kristen in the comments and go check out her blog. Tomorrow, we’ll be back with Tina’s kitchen redo.
Ashley says July 24, 2012 at 9:48 am Kristen your bedroom is beautiful! I love the gallery wall. I want to do something like that in our bedroom. And I love your teal chest of drawers with all the bird touches. I also like decorating with birds, bird cages, etc. Great job! 🙂 Reply
