UncategorizedGuest Bathroom Details November 12, 2012Happy Monday! I hope y’all had a great weekend…we sure did. It was sooo busy, but really fun too. Some relaxation time, some fun with friends…just what the doctor ordered. Thanks so much for all of the sweet comments about our guest bathroom. I so appreciate it and it makes me so happy. You know, you design your home for you and your family, but it doesn’t hurt to hear other people like it a little bit too 🙂 So onto some bathroom details… Y’all saw our lovely before photos – lots of blue. I knew that I wanted to brighten it up a bit and what better color to do that with than my favorite color…white! We knew that we wanted to spend less money on this than the Master Bathroom . We also knew that we were selling this house when we started redoing this room. Now, I’m not one to believe that you do anything in your house for buyers, but that was a consideration. We picked the slate-ish tiles for the floor out from Home Depot. I love the dark color of them. I really wanted dark gray floors with the rest being white. I was hoping that it wouldn’t feel too stark and I love seeing how it turned out! We wanted the grout to be a bit darker, but this dried lighter than we thought it would. I still like it, though. Of course, the walls got a dose of Benjamin Moore’s White Dove – that is my go-to white. We had that blue tub reglazed to be white. It’s a really nice cast iron tub, so it was a much smarter option from a price and quality standpoint. Onto the shower tile… My vision for the tile in here was white subway. I love me some white subway. But time stood in the way of that one. Subway takes longer to lay and we had a deadline set for the listing…so we had a decision to make. We decided to go with larger tiles, but still all white. It has the same overall effect and it was the right decision in this case. One day, I’ll do a bathroom with subway tiles. Now, let’s talk about one of my favorite parts…the lighting. The ceiling fixture was clearanced for $6.00 at Lowe’s. That’s my kind of price! I just wanted something to add light, but that would be small and let the rest of the room shine. I’ve wanted to use this outdoor galvanized lantern for some time. People seem to love the lantern so much and everyone is shocked when I tell them it’s an outdoor lantern from Lowe’s for $25. You can find it here. It’s strange, though, it’s almost twice the price online and it wasn’t on sale when we bought it in the store. So, if you’re looking for this one, check in a store first. I will definitely be using this light again! I’m so glad to finally have a place for it. My other favorite part of this room is the mirror…oh that mirror. I will be sad to see her go whenever we leave this place. (excuse my appearance in this picture) This rustic wood/metal beauty came from Home Goods. I’m so proud of this one because I put my bargaining skills to the test. It was clearanced at $45.00, but I noticed a tiny nick (that really wasn’t that noticeable, but still there). I showed it to the manager and asked for a discount…he gave me an extra 10% off! I was so proud. I love the lighting and mirror together…I walk by this room and stop and just stare at it. Isn’t it funny how such simple things can enamor us?! Onto a few more small details… The burlap shower curtain with white fringe and embroidered monogram came from Ballard Designs. You can find yours here. I will warn you, the monogram is much smaller than I anticipated and than it looks in the picture, but I still love it. I had planned to find a piece of furniture for the vanity in here, but this one was given to us for free by a contractor friend. We could not turn that down! It’s painted Sherwin Williams Rushing River. I’ve been wanting to use this color for a while and really love how it turned out. It looks more green in the room than I thought…it’s a very gray color. But still pretty, I think. The artwork is currently a stand-in. I picture a wall of vintage nautical paintings here with lovely shades of blue. I’ve seen so many of these in the past and loved them, but didn’t know where I’d put them so I didn’t buy them. Now, I’ve been searching for months and haven’t found one! So, these vintage florals came up from the basement. I really do like them in the room. The gold frames work well with the silver to me. I always like metals best mixed. And the blue in them picks up the chevron towel… …this too came from Home Goods. I liked the mix of rustic, vintage, and a splash of modern with this print. Lit candles always make things better to me. And one more piece of rustic goodness…this bowl came back with us from our summer trip to Nicaragua. I put stacked some soaps in there. You can smell them when you walk past. My favorite is this honey scented soap from World Market. Well, there you have it y’all. If I forgot to source something or you have any questions, let me know.
