UncategorizedFriday Faves: Thrifting Finds of the Week June 7, 2013I hope y’all have had a great week! Forgive me lack of posting the last few days. Today is officially my last day of school and I’ve been a bit swamped finishing up grading and closing up for the year. This teacher is off for the summer and ready to do some decorating! In anticipation of my coming vacation and all the fun design things I plan to fill this summer with, I went on a little thrifting outing yesterday. If you follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter (find the links on my sidebar if you don’t and say hello!), you already saw these, but I had to show them to you guys here. These two beauties are probably my favorite thrifting finds ever. Hence, why they fit Friday Faves! First off, I’ve been looking for some type of hutch for our dining area. There isn’t a ton of room, but I really wanted something that could serve as pretty storage, closed storage, and a buffet. Tall order, I know. So when I stumbled across this mid-century beauty, I was sold. I spotted her from across the room and was in love before I even took a step toward her. I was wary of the price because this particular thrift store has much higher furniture pricing than others (read: an antique chest was priced at $1200). I walked over to her and guess what she was listed at? $69.99. Seriously??? I coudn’t buy her fast enough. I love that I can store pretties up top, use the buffet surface, but also have closed storage below for lots of linens, candles, etc. I also love the stripe detailing down the side. I was feeling pretty good, okay super good, after this buy. I very rarely find mid-century items at thrift stores in my area and to find one in great condition, at such a low price, and exactly what I was looking for was awesome. But it got better… On a whim, I stopped in at a thrift store I’d never been in before. It was on my way and thought, why not? From the door, I spotted this loveliness. The green is actually a very different color in person than in this photo. It’s darker and less yellow. I was in love with the mid-century shape, the tufting, and its perfect condition. I will remove the arm covers, I believe, but otherwise, love her and my living room is calling out for her. I did the same thing as the hutch. I just knew this thing would be high. It reminded me of the mid-century chair options from Urban Outfitters that run upwards of $300. This particular chair is currently on sale for $299. I love them and really wanted something similar for the living room, but just cannot afford that price. Okay, back to my chair. So, I walked over expecting at least $100 price tag, which I would not have paid. Not that I think that would have been a totally unfair price, but after buying that hutch, I was already pretty tapped out for the day. But, the tag did not read $100. Nope. It read $35. What? Needless to say, the chair immediately came home with me and I am THRILLED to bring all of this mid-century goodness into my white and a little bit country home. Loving the eclectic mix! Now time for a little disclaimer: some of you when you saw this on social media last night talked about how you never find stuff like this. Where in the world do I go??? I’ve got to say, even though I’ve said this before, GO ALL THE TIME. I have no gift. I often leave with nothing. But if you go enough, you will find some seriously awesome things. Both of these items were delivered yesterday. I just happened to come in that day. Both stores said they probably wouldn’t have lasted even another day. So, go thrift this weekend! And if you find some goodies, send photos my way. I’d love to celebrate with you! Happy weekend!
