Home DecorEntry Plans and Progress July 22, 2015 Yesterday’s post gave y’all this little glimpse of our entry. This room is nearing completion as far as the paint and trim goes. Remember, we’re doing this reno in two phases. We made a lot of progress on the existing house while waiting on the addition. Now those phases are starting to overlap, but the existing house is nearly finished! One of Chris’ biggest requests for this house was board and batten like this somewhere with a color over top. I love that man! He puts up with so much of my design schemes that he isn’t so sure about. So, I really wanted to do this somewhere. And I’m so thankful we did. I’m really liking what it brings to the entry. I chose a darker color to go over the board and batten so that it would really contrast against all of the trim work. The color is Benjamin Moore Bella Blue. It’s a little different in person than these pictures, just slightly bluer and not quite as much navy. Now, I’m starting to plan how I’ll be finishing this room. There will be a long entry table along this right wall. Remember, this entry will also serve as the family mudroom, so there will be a bench along the left wall with hooks over it and a coat closet. There aren’t any windows in this space, so we chose the same front door as we currently have to bring some light in. I’m still narrowing down the exterior plans, so I’m not sure if this door will be painted or stained, but I’m planning to finish the inside the same as the outside to bring a pop and some contrast in here. As far as the design plan goes, I’m really wanting this room to be beautiful and be the introduction to our home. Here’s a little glimpse at what I’m thinking: This vintage blue, red, and peach runner that I currently have will go down the middle. We’ll be using some live edge wood as the bench top. Chris is so excited about that one! I’m still searching for the right console or entry table. It needs to be pretty specific dimensions (long and narrow) to really fill the space and be functional. So I’m not sure what finish it will be yet. But my plan is to do mirrored white glossy lamps with black shades on each end and a very large art print in the center. These are my current three choices. I’m wanting something colorful that ties in the colors of the room and ties to the overall house design plan. I’d love your vote! With this plan, would you choose Art 1, Art 2, or Art 3? *** To follow our renovation journey every step of the way, make sure you subscribe to posts! They come straight to your inbox when posted. Kelly says July 22, 2015 at 12:40 pm Gorgeousness!!!! I love option 3. You’ve got curvy lamps and the organic feel of the live edge bench top; go with the most geometric of the abstracts! Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:14 pm Good point, Kelly. I haven’t found lamps yet, but if they’re curvy like this example, straight lines might be a good option 😉 Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:08 pm Thanks for sharing your opinion, Chris! I love hearing what others think 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:13 pm Thanks Cassie! I’m with you, I think…I’m liking how #2 goes with the whole picture 🙂 Reply
Megan says July 22, 2015 at 1:02 pm We renovated our house this past year and I always love the phase when you see everything start to come together! I love the B&B with the blue paint and rug. It’s looking great! I love #1 and #3. 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:08 pm Thanks Megan! Going with this much color is definitely out of my all-white comfort zone, but I’m loving it here! I think I’ll especially like it once the whole room comes together. Reply
Rachel says July 22, 2015 at 1:11 pm My choice for art would be 1, then 3, then 2. I’m really liking that mood board for the entry! Reply
Kim says July 22, 2015 at 1:41 pm Gorgeous. I love number #3! It goes great with your scheme and that rug. Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:12 pm Thanks Kim! Appreciate your opinion – I do love the colors of three. Reply
amber says July 22, 2015 at 1:44 pm Option 3! Love how it ties in with the colors in the runner, but isn’t too matchy. Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:11 pm Thanks Amber! It does go well with the runner 😉 That was my favorite thing about it. Thanks for the feedback! Reply
Val says July 22, 2015 at 1:55 pm #2-organic/ natural vibe, while still bringing in color. Understated, yet still makes a statement. Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:11 pm Thanks Val! I’m leaning toward 2 right now for a couple of reasons, but the reason you mentioned is why I really love it. The walls and rug are saturated, so I love that this art is a big more toned down. Plus the other two are similar to art I’m using in other rooms. We’ll see how it all comes together, though! Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:10 pm Thanks Brenda! It does have beautiful colors. Appreciate your input! Reply
Abby says July 22, 2015 at 3:06 pm Beautiful! I’m excited to see the finished product in this room! I vote for art option #1. Reply
Lindsay says July 22, 2015 at 3:09 pm Thanks Abby! I can’t wait to see the finished product too 🙂 I love all of the art for different reasons, but I do love the color palette of 1! Reply
Haley says July 22, 2015 at 3:09 pm this looks awesome! I love the color you chose. I vote art #1 Reply
Austin says July 22, 2015 at 3:26 pm I vote #2, which is actually kind of surprising for me! Ha. Normally, I’d say #1 because it’d be so pretty with the blue walls, but I love that #2 looks to bring in more of the peachy tones I’ve seen throughout your home in the past. Love that it gives a little more contrast than #1, and I kind of feel like the rug may be too close in shades of #3. Whichever you pick, I’m so excited to see this room/the house coming together! I can hardly wait for the next update! 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says July 23, 2015 at 2:38 pm Austin, the softness and the peach are the reasons I like 2. I think it’s going to win 🙂 Reply
Danielle says July 22, 2015 at 4:13 pm What about using the live edge wood to make a custom console table instead? It would make it very easy to get the dimensions you need and would allow that cool element to shine even more! Reply
Lindsay says July 23, 2015 at 2:37 pm Danielle, I had this idea too, but my husband is THRILLED with the idea of it as a built-in bench. It was his original idea and I really try to let him have some design say too. It’s hard when it’s my job, though 🙂 Reply
Leslie says July 22, 2015 at 7:57 pm #2 gets my vote! I do like #3 but worry that it competes with your rug already. Loving watching your progress! Reply
Lindsay says July 23, 2015 at 2:35 pm Leslie, that’s my concern with 3 too. The more I look at it, I LOVE the art itself, but think it might be too “loud” in this space. Maybe I’ll find another spot for it. Reply
Christina says July 22, 2015 at 11:15 pm #2 all the way! Although both 1 & 3 are beautiful, #2 picks up just a touch of the red carpet color, a bit of the blue wall, and the peach is warm and soft like the wood bench. It doesn’t compete with the brightly patterned rug like 3 does…and there’s just too much blue in #1 to hang on your blue wall. #2 is perfect and brings the entire space together so well. Reply
Lindsay says July 23, 2015 at 2:34 pm Christina, I think that’s my favorite part about #2! It subtlely ties in the rest of the design. Reply
Baileywife @ IrishmanAcres says July 23, 2015 at 7:55 am Things are looking so awesome Lindsay! I’m in love with that rug and the wood element you are bringing in! I’m not a fan of abstract art so I can’t really give an opinion on which one, my vote is something more vintage or earthy… But that’s just my style. Whatever you choose will be perfect for you! ~Kim Reply
Lindsay says July 23, 2015 at 2:33 pm Thanks Kim! I used to hate abstract too, haha! It’s funny how styles evolve over time. Now I love it! But I still love rustic and pairing it with old vintage art as well. Don’t worry, there will still be plenty of that in this house! Reply
Mim says July 23, 2015 at 11:32 am #3 for sure!!! It screams to me of where ur heading with the Buffalo Bungalow!! I know there’s alotta tutorials on b&b… But how did u guys go about it? Is it actual board or just the look off it created with drywall? What width of trim did u use? We are renovating our master n ur foyer is our goal except we plan on going w the paint on the ceiling as well…just had ta ask why ya left urs white? 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says July 23, 2015 at 2:30 pm I’ll do a b&b post and did you see my response about the ceiling? It would look great painted, I think! We just don’t have enough natural light in this case do justify a dark color as more than just a pop on the walls 🙂 Reply
Mim says July 23, 2015 at 12:41 pm #3 for sure!!! We are renovating our master bedroom and ur foyer is our design goal!!! Only difference is we plan on painting the ceiling as well… Is there a reason ya left urs white? Also I know there are tons of b&b tutorials out there but will u be having one on urs? Just wondering if ya used actual board or if it’s just drywall… And what ur trim dimensions are? Looks awesome so far n can’t wait for the reveal!!! Reply
Lindsay says July 23, 2015 at 2:28 pm Yes, I’ll post some b&b details, but just so you know, it’s just sheetrock and trim. We decided to do all ceilings white in the house for consistency, but I also didn’t want to paint the ceiling the wall color in this room because it’s a dark color and there isn’t a lot of natural light in here at all. Great questions though! This will look great in your master! Reply
Rebecca Cash says July 23, 2015 at 1:00 pm Reading all of the comments I think I am alone in my opinion but I am in love with #1! Reply
Lindsay says July 23, 2015 at 2:32 pm Haha, Becca, this doesn’t surprise me at all. It’s your colors! I do love it too! Reply
Sarah says July 23, 2015 at 3:01 pm I vote for #2! Since you’ve already decided on white lamps with black shades, I think it would tie in nicely! Plus, I just love the feel of this one…it’s romantic and organic with enough geometric shapes to add interest. Everything looks great so far!!! Reply
Kara says July 23, 2015 at 3:47 pm We are in need of a new front door with windows and love yours! Where did you buy it and is it affordable? We actually have double front doors so double the cost! Thanks! Reply
Sherry Mullis says July 24, 2015 at 8:40 am My first choose is #3 but the more I understand your style I agree #2 is best for your new home. I enjoy watching your vision come together. Reply
Melissa Sorci Taft / Feather Your Nest says July 24, 2015 at 10:52 am Definitely Art 3 – picks up on the rug colors and brings the most “pop” to the scheme! This looks lovely so far 🙂 Reply
Kristin @ bliss-athome.com says July 27, 2015 at 9:56 am Oh, it’s coming along so well! I love the entry and the art options 🙂 How exciting! xo Reply
~abi~ says July 27, 2015 at 11:06 am exciting stuff happening! i so admire your vision and planning skills. 🙂 i vote #3!! i love the range of colors in it. Reply
Lauren says July 27, 2015 at 1:29 pm I definitely think option #3! I love the colors and it is abstract while at the same time having a crispness to it…if that makes sense. The entryway is going to look great! Reply
Kaye Halvorson says July 29, 2015 at 10:05 pm I would go for option 2 with the peach background to tie together the peach in the rug. I also think it will pop against the blue. Reply
Christa says September 5, 2017 at 3:11 pm Thanks! Do you know the style and manufacturer. It’s beautiful and the wood doors I am looking at are so expensive Reply
