UncategorizedDay 12: 31 Days of Finishing Rooms October 12, 2011Hey y’all, how’s it going? I thought I would have that shelf hung today, but the paint is still drying. So, hopefully, I’ll have that up tomorrow. In the meantime, I want to show you guys some progress on our little entryway. It really is so hard making the entry exciting and separate when it opens right into our living room. But, we’re making a little progress. Remember how it looked before? Pretty empty entry. Well, now we have a little progress… When I got home from work on my birthday last month, Chris had this table waiting on me. He made it! It’s pretty similar to a table I liked at Pottery Barn. I think he did a really great job. Here it is up close. It’s much redder in this picture than in person. But I love the plank top and the wood grain. It’s a really good contrast against the painted white fireplace too. I’ve got this chalkboard leaning here trying to decide if I want to hang it above it. What do you guys think? I was concerned it was a little too big, but I love the idea of having inspirational messages in this room to change with mood or season. There’s always something we need to be reminded of. Other plans for this little area, so far, include a lamp on the table to bring a little light to this corner of the room and, of course, a rug in this big open space right inside the door. Nothing says “Well, come on in and stay awhile,” like a pretty rug! What do you guys think? Any other ideas for cozying up this entry and making it feel distinct? I’m looking forward to your comments!
Kristina says October 12, 2011 at 9:52 pm A rug sounds like a good idea, as well as a lamp. Chris did a great job! And I like the frame a lot. It’s not too big. And I like it leaning on the table–although if you add a lamp, you’ll probably have to hang the frame. Reply
Megan says October 13, 2011 at 12:09 am I have never met Chris, but he sure seems to be quite the handy guy! The entryway looks great. I am trying to figure out how to translate what you’ve done into our living room. We have a closet door where you placed your table. 🙁 Reply

And what is beside the closet door? Do you have a fireplace right there too? If not, you could do a table and entry area right past the closet door and I think it would have the same effect! Reply
