UncategorizedAdding Storage to Our Cottage January 13, 2014Happy Monday, y’all! I hope you had great weekends! I’m excited to be back with Day 5 of Our Renovation Story. When we first bought the new place, we were intent on adding more storage. You can never really have too much storage, but this can be severely lacking in old houses. Ours was a prime example. The biggest way that we tried to add storage was through our front room. I had seen this picture by Sarah Richardson a while back and loved the look of the double closets framing an entry table, not to mention the storage possibilities! {via} When you walk in our front door, this blank wall was to your left. It was screaming for some closets! I knew I wanted to have the desk that Chris made me somewhere in this room. So, we measured out the length of the desk plus a few extra inches, so that the desk would fit in nicely between the closets. Once we had our dimensions, we set to building! Leaving room for the desk, we had over three feet in width left for each closet! I love how the desk fits in between. And the storage benefits are awesome. In the left closet, we put shelves to store decorative items – a dream! In the right, we installed a closet rod for a traditional coat closet. Now, I just need like four more sets of these…I swear the more we get rid of it, it feels like we just accumulate more! *** I’m over on The Handmade Home today sharing how we used IKEA Billy Bookshelves to create a custom, stylish, and organized closet!
Jennifer @ Brave New Home says January 13, 2014 at 6:36 pm Yes, storage definitely is lacking in older homes. Makes me realize how much more stuff we have come to rely on as times have changed! I love the idea of adding closets on either side of a desk. Great idea and I already have a wall in mind for a project like this! Reply
