EntertainingUltimate Red, White, & Blue Roundup: Backyard Bash June 11, 2014 Well, y’all, today is my first official day of full-time blogging. What better way to celebrate that than with 110 bloggers joining together for the Ultimate Red, White, & Blue Roundup?! Yes, you heard me correctly. 110 bloggers. 110 July 4th ideas from home decor to recipes to crafts. When Abbey from The Cards We Drew asked me to join in, I was so excited. July 4th has always been a favorite of mine. My family always gathers at the lake for that week and there is always an outdoor July 4th bash. I love the relaxed, celebratory vibe. I love the cookouts and the fireworks. So, for my Red, White, & Blue project, I decided to put together a little Backyard Bash that was pretty, but casual and had a fresh take on the typical color scheme. Of course you’ll see my bohemian style thrown in there a bit. I knew I wanted a tablecloth all the way to the floor. That usually says formal to me, but a laid back pattern and allowing it to pool a little on the ground makes it casual, I think. I brought out my Eames style armchairs for the ends of the tables. And then in the spirit of all things eclectic, some wood stumps down the side finished out the seating. What says backyard more than wood stumps? The table linens are where I really brought in some color, pattern, and fun. I just had to use my tie-dye curtains tablecloth again {see the tutorial here}. Not only do I love the pattern, but I love that the light blue gives a fresh take on the traditional vibrant July 4th blue. I’m all about mixing pattern, so I set out to find some printed red, cloth napkins that mixed well with the tie-dye. But I always have the hardest time finding cloth napkins in the pattern I have in my head. My mom taught me a little trick years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. I’ll share my trick for the easiest cloth napkins ever this week. I chose this Premier Prints fabric from Online Fabric Store for my napkins. The color scheme was perfect, but I also loved the scale of the pattern. It also had a slightly boho feel, which I loved. For the place settings, I decided to stay very simple and really let the table linens shine. I went with navy rimmed plates that I found at a thrift store. I love how those mixed with the vintage glasses brings in a deeper shade of blue against the tie-dye. I think mixing shades of the same color really brings a table to life instead of having everything be the exact same shade. For a hint of summer, I placed a little seashell in the center of each plate. It’s simple, but I love how it adds a little something of the season. And for the centerpiece, I decided to go simple as well. A color scheme of blue and red is pretty vibrant, so I stuck with varying clear glass vases filled with clippings of greenery from the yard. It has a summery, organic feel and really adds to the tablescape without overpowering it. And what Backyard Bash is complete without a little lounge area? My antique Persian from eBay fit the red & blue bill, while bringing in varying and deeper shades of the colors. It adds some dimension and a pretty place to sit. Another layered rag rug and some throw pillows make it ready for lounging! And my copper bar cart is a perfect fit for a little dinner serving. So there’s a simple July 4th Backyard Bash you could easily throw yourself! Pull out a table and some chairs to a pretty backyard spot. Throw on some relaxed red & blue linens. Clip a little greenery. Create a little lounge area. And you have yourself a July 4th Party everyone will love! Now, check out the rest of the 110 Red, White, & Blue projects! I know they’ll be good and you’ll be ready for a HUGE July 4th celebration!
