UncategorizedThrifty Find Fridays April 1, 2011Small confession for those of you who don’t already know this…I am OBSESSED with thrift store shopping. In my mind, why pay full price for stuff that you can find at a thrift store and make your own with just a little TLC? Thankfully, we live really close to several great thrift stores and I’ve made it a weekly tradition of scouting them out to see what I can find. I try to hold off and go on Fridays – just another reason to look forward to the start of the weekend! I’ve become pretty good at these thrift store runs. I have a couple of routes all mapped out: there are several near work that I can hit in one hour exactly for my lunch break and several on the way home that I hit all in a row. I told you: OBSESSED. So, without further adieu, here is what I found this week: These photos were staged in our unfinished basement, currently, our work and paint area. Another project for another day! Here are the items up close: I bought the small gold framed mirror just because I liked the cool shape and know I’ll be able to find a place for it. Maybe in one of the upcoming gallery wall projects that I have planned. I have a special project planned for the candlesticks that I’ll reveal very soon! And the table. Yes, I realize this is an ugly, particle board table. Why would I buy this, you ask? Here’s what I plan on doing with it: Photo from Ballard Designs. Not sure where it’ll go yet, but we have plenty of empty corners that an accent table such as this would be perfect for. All I have to do now is whip up one easy burlap tablecloth and I’m good to go. Can’t wait! On a less exciting note is the canister that I purchased: Or, shall I say urn. I loved this item when I saw it. I loved the shape, the antiqued detail, and most of all the words. I love decorating with letters/words (probably has something to do with my love of writing), but moving on. Immediately after I saw this canister, urn, whatever, I pictured it atop a stack of books in a cute little vignette somewhere. But, after I purchased my loot and was turning to leave the store, I overheard the clerk telling someone behind the counter that she thought I might’ve just purchased an urn. Like an urn that holds someone’s ashes! I was more than a little freaked out, but I had just heard her telling the customer in front of me that no returns were accepted for any reason. So, I took it home. I still love it and have no reason to believe that she is right about it. But, I’m still trying to decide, can I forget that whole interaction and actually use it in my home? We’ll see…
