UncategorizedStyling the Bump: One Dress, Five Ways November 17, 2014I’ve gotten a lot of questions about my maternity style. Layering is essential to my style, so I wanted to share how I’ve been layering my new favorite maternity pieces. 1. Striped Dress | 2. Black Tee | 3. White Tee | 4. Black Leggings | 5. Skinny Jeans | 6. Olive Tee | 7. Black Dress I am loving this system! I didn’t have a huge budget for maternity clothes at all, as many of us probably don’t for items you’ll only wear for a relatively short time. So, buying these basics and then layering them with pieces I already had and some new, non-maternity favorites has worked out amazingly! So, today, I’m sharing how I took my favorite pieces above, the striped dress, and styled it 5 totally different ways! For each look, I wore this striped dress with black maternity tights. For this look, I threw on a plaid shirt over the dress, pulled on some over-the-knee studded boots, and layered up some necklaces. Get the look: Plaid shirt – I already had this, but here are some similar ones: here, here, and here. Over-the-knee Boots – These are also older, but here are some similar options: here and here (this last pair is 50% off!) Snakeskin Clutch – Mine is vintage, but here’s a similar option. I have fallen in love with kimonos during this pregnancy! Even before the baby bump, I loved long comfy and stylish sweaters that would allow me to wear leggings and still feel put together. I invested in a few new ones to pair with my maternity pieces AND to wear after she comes! Get the look: Colorful Kimono: This kimono was purchased from Francesca’s and isn’t available online, but here are some similar options: here (on sale!), here, here, here (also on a great sale). Bright, jeweled necklace: Purchased years ago, but here are similar options: here, here, here, and here. Gray Boots: I am SO in love with these boots from Target. Comfortable and super affordable! Find here. My Favorite Clutch: Tory Burch For this look, I was picturing a dresser outfit for a fun night out. Black heeled booties give a slight dressier feel and the black and white color scheme feels a bit more sophisticated. Get the look: Black & White Kimono: Gypsy Soul Collective Black Booties:Purchased two years ago, but here are super affordable options: here , here, and here. Black, Layered Necklace: Purchased at H&M awhile ago, but here are similar options: here, here, and here. This look is more fun, casual, and ready for a fall day trip! I love mixing patterns and this colorful, wide stripe sweater provides good contrast with the striped sweater. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns! And layered necklaces in all of the same color family makes a statement without being overwhelming. Get the Look: Fringe, Colorful Sweater: Purchased last year from Forever21, but here are similar options: here, and here (I WANT this one!). Turquoise, Cross Necklace: Yard sale find, but here’s the most similar options I can find: here and here. Beaded, Turquoise Necklace: Purchased years ago, but here are similar options: here, Favorite New Boots: Target While I love my colorful options, my tendency is to dress in neutrals. I am loving olive green with black and white. With neutrals, you have even more freedom to step up the look with your accessories. I love this big, statement necklace and leopard clutch with this look. They’re still neutral, but the pattern packs a big punch. Get the look: Olive Green Cardigan: No longer available, but here are similar options: here and here. Leopard Clutch: Purchased years ago, but here are similar options: here and here. Statement Necklace: Purchased awhile ago, but here are similar options: here, here, here, and here. Don’t forget to enter our Gypsy Soul Collective bag Giveaway! It ends tomorrow!
Beth of designPOST interiors says November 17, 2014 at 5:26 pm I am a big fan of using “regular” clothes during pregnancy bc there comes a point when you never want to see those huge clothes again 🙂 It’s always better to use old things in new ways or buy stuff that can transition. You are looking so pretty and I love the bright look! Reply

alicia says November 19, 2014 at 8:20 am I am prig and have mostly thrifted a size up in tops and borrowed maternity clothes from my sister. You are right–they are so expensive! This is a great dress and love the pattern mixing! I have found leggings to be a life saver–which helps during this particular season . . . ! love it! Reply
