Home DecorStages of the Living Room August 4, 2016 Oh friends, an official reveal on this room has been a looooong time coming. This is one of the first rooms I started planning and purchasing items for last fall and it’s still been going, slowly but surely. I think because I made so much progress early, it was much more liveable than others, so we focused our attention on getting other rooms functional. This room could get all the pretty details and finishing touches later. But y’all, this room is finally going to have its’ day. The official reveal along with some detail posts will be next week, but since this one has been so drawn out, I thought it was a good idea to re-visit where this room started and how it’s progressed. You may remember that this room started as an addition. There aren’t really befores, unless you consider these in-progress construction shots. Not long after moving in, the beams were installed, the fireplace was tiled… …and then eventually trimmed out and painted in my favorite shade of green, Benjamin Moore Hidden Falls. Designing this room really centered around mixing color and pattern. I found the rug first at a local antique store and then pulled colors from it to complete the room. The dark green for the fireplace came from it, the blue and white motif came from it, and even my hints of blush and peach. Let’s take a little trip down memory lane and look at a snapshot of all of our living room posts thus far. You can check out those posts for more information by clicking on the linked title. LIVING ROOM DESIGN PLANS Seeing this old concept board again and then seeing how parts of it have come to fruition over time really makes me happy. We’ve slowly, but surely been chipping away at this room since we moved in and you guys have seen it evolve. Even though it’s been nearly a year since I made that mood board, I still love every detail and would do it the same all over again. LIVING ROOM PROGRESS This post gives you some of the first shots of the living room after we moved in. The rug was down, a little furniture was moved in, but it was mostly unfinished still. DIY FAUX FIREPLACE SURROUND You can see how we trimmed out the fireplace in this post. Adding trim and a mantel and painting it a dark color really made it a focal point in this room. LIVING ROOM CHANDELIER This is truly the cherry on top of this room. I pictured an oversized blue chandelier to fill this tall ceiling and pop against the green fireplace, but where in the world was I going to find that on a shoestring budget? I found this huge chandy at Goodwill, spray-painted it baby blue, and added round bulbs for a modern touch. I still love the result so much! NEW LIVING ROOM CHAIRS The initial plan was for these living room chairs to sit on either side of the fireplace. The rug, chairs, green fireplace, and baby blue chandelier in one view was exactly what I’d pictured. But even though we measured, once we got them in, it was just squeezed in too tight. We really wanted the couch centered between the two windows, so there was no way to do both, sadly. But I still love this fabric and love using them in the room. NEW LIVING ROOM LAMPS Adding these blue and white marbled lamps really makes a statement. They have the same blue and white as the chairs, but the organic pattern pairs nicely with the geometric shibori of the chair. NEW LIVING ROOM CURTAINS I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, curtains make every room to me! They soften it and add structure in my opinion, if those two things are even possible together. TV WALL LAYER 1 It’s hard to make a TV wall pretty, but I’m trying my best to camouflage our giant TV and give this wall some interest. This is layer 1 of what we’re doing and we used some art we already had. KIDS READING NOOK We took this unused corner by the TV and made a sweet little space for Rosie. I love that she has her own little nook here to do her favorite activity. I love just scrolling through those photos above to see how the room has changed. I can’t wait to share the official reveal with you next week, down to every little finishing layer and detail! Thanks for following along in this journey with us, y’all! It’s been a long ride and I sure am happy that completed room finish line is in sight! While it’s been pretty to me for awhile, getting all of the details done in the room we spend most of our time is feeling good. If you have any questions about something above I didn’t share details on, check the original posts I linked or ask in comments below. I know it’s a lot to take in!

Corinna - ADesignerAtHome says August 5, 2016 at 11:36 am I love how the reading area fills in that space by the TV a bit more. Built ins are pretty, but honestly this is a really beautiful and versatile set up. Question: whatever happened ed to dough bowl coffee table? It was the project that led me to you! Reply
Lindsay says August 6, 2016 at 9:44 am Thanks, Corinna! Oh that’s so crazy you found me through that! I actually sold it when we moved. I was so sad to for sure, but we had no place for it in this house. The corners were way too sharp for babies, so it would’ve been a long time before I could’ve used it again and didn’t have anywhere to store it. Reply
Keah Bateman says August 5, 2016 at 2:54 pm I am so glad I found you! I have so enjoyed back reading through your blog 🙂 Not sure if you’ve given (or ever have) your sources but I would love to know where you got those blue and white lamps as well as the abstract/floral print over the fireplace!? Also, what color green is that side table/dresser? We have a set of longhorns in our kitchen and loved seeing yours! Thanks for the inspiration! Reply
Lindsay says August 6, 2016 at 9:42 am Yes! The art is from Minted and the lamps are from Lamps Plus! There’s a post on them and I’ll be linking to it all in the reveal next week. Thanks so much! I’m so glad you’re here, Keah! Reply
