UncategorizedSoftening Feminine Touches with Rustic March 5, 2015 Thank you all so much for your sweet responses to Rosie’s nursery reveal! As I said in that post, the floral curtains were my main inspiration. Every little girl needs some floral, but ESPECIALLY a little girl named Rosie. They make such a statement and I really love them, but as soon as they were hung, I felt the need to balance and soften them a bit. Not that they were too much, but I didn’t want ten more majorly girly elements added in. You know I love to mix my styles in every room! I balance feminine elements in the rest of my home with some rustic and masculine elements. I look for something with a bit of an edge to it. Obviously, in a little girl’s nursery, you can go as girly as you want! But it needed some of that balance. I began looking for rustic elements that would compliment, but soften the floral curtains. I thought about bringing in a cowhide rug. I absolutely love cowhides. They’re super soft for her to play on, plus it would fill the rustic need. I love traditional cowhides, but when I came across this gray cowhide with silver metallic flecks from Rugs USA, I was sold. Rugs USA is awesome to work with, plus I’ve loved their products in the past. From seeing it online, I loved what it would bring into the design. If you remember my original inspiration post, I incorporated the gold version of this rug. Once I found the curtains, though, I really thought the silver and gray was a better fit. While there is gold in this fabric, I wasn’t looking for a big contrasting statement in the rug. I wanted something that would be beautiful, add in some rustic, but be a bit more subtle than the curtains. After seeing it in person, I was even more in love! It works great with all of the elements in the room and really balances out the curtains. Plus, the quality and softness is even better than I’d hoped for! It has a beautiful natural variance in the color with different shades of gray. I hate that it’s currently out of stock because this would be such an awesome neutral, but stylish addition to any room! But, if you’re interested, you can choose to have them e-mail you when it comes back. This one is also a pretty metallic cowhide option. I’ve already shared the other major rustic element in the room: the White Antler Chandlelier. I love it so much. It paired with the rug really do exactly what I’d hoped. They add in another style element, but the neutral gray and white is soft and doesn’t compete with my floral curtains. I love the view of the white antlers against the bright floral. You can read about it here. I think this may be my new design formula for every room: pretty floral, antlers, and rustic. Wait, I’ve kind of already done that. Remember my dining room redo? Be on the lookout for more floral to show up in the rest of my designs! Floral is my new favorite color 🙂
