UncategorizedShop the House April 26, 2012I’ve often heard this term and so often, I don’t put it into practice. We have a large half-finished basement that just serves as storage right now. I have more than enough decorative items that I haven’t found a place for yet, or that my taste has changed on. I keep meaning to repurpose some of those things when I re-do rooms, but so often, I just end up buying something new at a thrift store. We’re currently on a no-spending on the house budget, which is so difficult if you know me! I love redoing things. So, I’m trying to be creative, repurpose things from the house, and finish up those lingering projects that I have all the materials for and just haven’t gotten to. This is our back door and where we enter our house: It’s very plain and I don’t like the colors, but painting isn’t in the budget, as I said yesterday. We come in this door multiple times every day, yet I focused on making the front pretty first because that is what other people see. Isn’t that funny how we do that? I focus on what other people might see once a week over what we see twice a day. Well, recently, I decided enough was enough. I needed to pretty up this space to welcome us home each evening. Since we’re not spending money on re-do’s right now, I shopped the house. This is what I came up with. Isn’t it amazing what a few homey details can do? The lanterns were wedding gifts from Pottery Barn. The pots were $4 clay pots I had in the garage not being used. I primed them and then spray painted them this sage green color. The flowers are pink snapdragons that were $2 at Lowe’s. The flowers make me happy 🙂 The wreath is my favorite part. We got this wreath on our honeymoon in Napa Valley, CA. It’s from the Napa Valley Grapevine Company. They make all kinds of things out of Cabernet grapes grown right there in Napa Valley. I love it’s rustic quality and the meaning behind it, but I hand’t found a place for it yet. Now, from shopping our basement, we have a much more welcoming entry to our home. See y’all later! Friday’s almost here – yay!
