Shed Turned Boho Screened Porch

bohemian-screened-porch

Welcome to our old shed turned screened porch reveal!  I know I say this a lot, but since we came up with this idea back in the fall, it’s really been the project we’re most excited about here at The Buffalo Bungalow.  We knew it would be an amazing transformation and were so excited to partner with Lowe’s Home Improvement on this fun project.  I won’t rehash all of the befores and progress shots because this post is already going to be super long and photo heavy, but if you missed where we started, make sure you check that out here.  And you can see progress posts here and here.

Okay, now onto this amazing transformation.  Our real goal with this project was to repurpose this old, unsightly shed AND create a nice three-seasons spot for us.  Living here in South Carolina, mosquitoes make it impossible to go out in the summer, so a screened spot is a huge benefit!  There is so much to share about this project, so today, you’re mainly going to see all of the lovely photos.  I’ll break down all the details (both interior and exterior) as well as the budget next week.  Let’s start with the exterior, shall we?

Our first plan was to paint the exterior to match our house, but we both have a love affair with old, weathered barns.  As we started on the project, we realized, that was really our inspiration for this and wanted the weathered exterior to stay.  Add a barn light and some landscaping and this place sure spruced up nice.

All of the plants came from Lowe’s.  I spent way too many hours in their garden section.  Y’all, it’s the best I’ve found in our area.  There was so much variety and I had a blast picking them out!  We went with this Screen Tight Creekside Natural Wood Hinged Screen Door and painted it in Fresh Idea from the HGTV Sherwin Williams line for Lowe’s.  We’ve used this Portfolio Ellicott 13.12-in Galvanized Dark Sky Outdoor Wall Light for many projects and love it.

Let’s venture inside, shall we?

Welcome to my little boho haven!

We painted all of the interior planked walls Origami White from the HGTV Sherwin Williams line.  Our original plan was to paint the ceiling as well, but at the last minute decided to leave it natural and now I am so glad we did!  I love the contrast it provides.

I was going for a calming, but colorful and personality-filled lounge area.

To make this spot really comfortable in the summer, we potted citronella to deter mosquitoes (needed even with the screens – they’re bad, y’all).  We also ran electricity out to this building and installed an overhead fan on this old pulley that we’ve had stored.  It cools this spot right down.

We used this allen + roth Valdosta 20-in Oil Rubbed Bronze Downrod Mount Indoor/Outdoor Ceiling Fan .   While the weather is fairly mild here most of the year, we’ll bring a space heater out (thank you, electricity) for colder months and we’ll be able to use this space nearly year-round!  Cozying up here with blankets and hot chocolate when it’s cold might be my favorite use of this space yet.

I wanted this to feel like a real outdoor “room,” complete with furniture, accessories, and plants.

This vintage bamboo couch is the perfect spot to lounge.  You’ll find me out here with my cup of coffee every morning.

Plants were the first thing on my inspiration board for this space.  To me, plants make EVERY space, but a screened porch has to feel like a little green house.

While we wanted this to mainly be a lounge spot, we did want a dining option.  Sure, we can eat on the couch and coffee table, but with a baby in a highchair, a table really functions best for us.

I used this old farm table I had and two metal chairs to create this little dining nook.

The lantern hanging over it with candles makes this spot feel special, almost like it has it’s own little chandelier.

I have a feeling most of our days will be spent out here until winter.  Oh who am I kidding?  We’ll bundle up, turn on a heater, and venture out then too.

Michael, you made my day! Mixing colors is my fave and you are a huge style inspiration to me, so that compliment is amazing. Thank you so, so much friend!

I love that you left the exterior rough. Kudos for really “seeing” this shed and making it beautiful instead of knocking it over!

Thanks so much Dharma! I know some would want a new, perfect exterior, but this was exactly right for us. And easier, so that’s a plus too!

Love this space!! It turned out so amazing and I can totally see you guys out here all the time. I agree with Michael, your color palette is awesome and most of the time I attempt to copy your choices. I’m thinking I need to incorporate some light blue pillows in our living room for the summer too!! Great Job and beautiful as always!!

Oh my. I’m blown away. I love everything you do but this tops them all. Keeping the natural wood beams was the right choice. Those windows, the perfect furniture, the string lights (nothing better than sparkle.) The plants, the boho feel, the kitchen table. That Greenville SC sign. You thought of everything! Kudos girlfriend. Sheer perfection! Will you get a storm door when it gets cold? Enjoy the space and relax for a bit!!

Hey Sherri! Thanks so much girl! It’s truly my favorite I’ve ever done for sure! So glad you love it! I hadn’t even thought about a storm door. Would that help since all the walls are open? We’ll do a space heater for sure 🙂

It looks fantastic Lindsay, seriously loved how your transformed your old shed into a retreat! Also love the fabrics you’ve choose on your outdoor sofa….such a fantastic spot to chill!!

Lindsay I’m seriously so inspired by everything you do!! So incredible. I can’t get over how good every detail is!! So grateful to have you in my life ??

Love! this is the perfect spot to sit and do quiet time or to relax with friends, year round! I know it’s summertime now but I can’t wait to see how you style it for the holidays!! Hope that Greenville, South Carolina sign is in your interior details source post <3

We’re about to add a screened porch to our house and this is everything I’m hoping for!! I can’t get over that lantern 🙂 Also love that you’re in the same town! We love Greenville 🙂

Happy, happy, happy! Your boho porch turned out perfectly. I can’t imagine it being any better. May you and your family enjoy it for years to come.

I absolutely love this! I will admit, I had my doubts when I saw your previous posts about this project, but now seeing it all come together (and realizing your need to keep out hordes of mosquitos), it is such a beautiful way to expand your enjoyable living space! I have dreams about creating cozy spaces in our outdoor area this year, and you definitely added to my inspiration! Keep going girl!

Amazing!! I love the way your screened porch turned out! While your style is so much different than my own, I find inspiration from the way you beautifully mix colors and patterns. I’m jealous of your outdoor hang out space!

O! M! G!!! I am OBSESSED with every single inch of this space! I have always dreamed of a screened porch and this one is PERFECTION my friend!!

You did such a great job with this Lindsay! It’s so dreamy! How could you not spend all summer out there?!

I’m SO inspired to give my sun porch some love. I have BIG plans for the space. Ones that involve basically flipping it with another attached space (long story) but I feel like I could achieve this vibe for the right now in it!

I’m so jealous!!!! What a great transformation !!! So clever to cut out the sides & add the screen panels – And you can overlook the garden. Good work !!!!

Love how this turned out. We are thing of enclosing our patio and this gives me ideas. Thanks for all you share.

This turned out so great, what an awesome project! Would you mind sharing how you created the image that changes from before to after at the beginning of this post? I want to do that with some posts on my blog but can’t figure out how to do that!

Tania

What a beautiful project! Maybe one of my favorite before/afters ever. Makes me wish I had an old shed outback somewhere. 🙂

We were inspired to do a shed very similar to yours. I was wanting to know which Origami White did you use. Flat, eggshell, etc?
