Rosie’s New Nursery

I’m so excited to share Rosie’s room with you guys today!  I know I haven’t shared any progress on this room since before we moved in and you guys have been asking for it.  Poor Rosie got the shaft when we first moved into this house.  Her room was filled with boxes.   There was a pathway to her crib and her closet door.  I was painting the changing table, which took me like two months to finish, so we changed her on the floor on a little mat.  At that time, we didn’t spend much time in here at all except for her to sleep, so our attention naturally went elsewhere.  I finally started putting her room together after the new year and have steadily made little progress here or there.  It’s not 100% finished in my mind (though what ever is), but I wanted to go ahead and share it.  If you look close, you’ll see mis-matched curtain rods, missing hardware, pictures not hung, etc., but I’m loving this room so much, I’m choosing not to notice those things.

First, let’s take a step back to when we first bought this house.

You may remember that Rosie’s current room was actually the living room and the entrance into the house off of the front porch.  (You can see all of the house before’s here.)  We turned that door into a window, closed up this opening to the kitchen area (now our entry and laundry), and put in a closet.

The last update I shared was Rosie’s room painted my color of choice Benjamin Moore Verdigris.  In that post, I shared the painted room and the decor plans – you can see it here.

I decided to use pretty much everything from Rosie’s last nursery, but I did want a slightly different feel.

{Rosie’s first nursery}

She only lived in it for six months or so!  But I wanted a different feel, so instead of everything against a white palette, I went with these dark green walls.  Now that we’re caught up on all things past nursery, let’s check it out today.  Prepare yourselves for a lot of pictures, guys.

What made me initially choose this wall color was knowing I would keep the curtains.  I love, love, love these floral curtains.  My mom made them for Rosie from this floral fabric.  I held a lot of different paint chips up to this fabric when I was deciding and ultimately, loved how they popped against the dark green.  We kept her doors the same as the rest of the house (BM Iced Marble) and I love how that goes with the dark green too.

I wasn’t sure about the dark grey chair against the walls, but I lightened it up with a sheepskin and pillow and don’t mind it at all!  The chair was a $10 thrift store find that I had reupholstered.  It’s so comfortable and I love that it rocks.

While we’re mostly going to be playing in her playroom once it’s done, I do want some toys in here for her.  I still love this vintage doll highchair I found at a thrift store when I was pregnant with her.  And she loves this little rocking lamb that she got for Christmas from her Mimi and Papi.

I love the silver flecked cowhide in here.  It really brightens up the space and I like it even better with the dark green walls than I did in her last room.  The fur stool is from Target last year.  And one of my favorite things: the white antler chandelier.  I’ve wanted one of these forever.

This one is actually from Home Depot and we sprayed it white.

We still love this crib so much!  I love the modern lines and two-tone finish.  And thankfully, her crib is one of Rosie’s favorite spots.  The tassel garland above is from Project Nursery’s shop and I love the pop of metallic and whimsy it brings in here.  Rosie just stares up at it.

We played with several different furniture layouts for this room.  While it’s bigger than her last, so many windows, two doors and a fireplace do limit you.  But I love that her room has a mantel!  I’ve had fun with it.

The bricked up fireplace bothered me, so I added this vintage trunk for toy storage in front of it.  I’m thinking of painting the trunk, but it works well for now.  When we decided this would be Rosie’s room, I LOVED that it had a mantel!  I could just picture leaning different artwork and decorating it for different seasons.  For now, I’ve leaned some of my favorites.  I bought the blue vintage floral for her when I was pregnant.  The word print is the words to “Come Thou Font.”

Chris actually gave that to me for Christmas last year when Rosie was almost here.  He’d gotten the print on Etsy and made the frame for her.  Y’all, I can only think of a few times I’ve cried harder.  I walked down the aisle at our wedding to this song and on the back of the frame, he wrote a letter to Rosie about how that song started our story that led to her.  He shared his hopes and dreams for her and I will treasure this always.

One of my maternity pictures and the vintage copper baby shoe I found at a thrift store finish it off.  Now, let’s talk about that bow garland!  I desperately needed a way to organize all of Rosie’s growing bow collection.  We’re overrun, y’all.  I decided to hang this tassel garland I made for her birthday party and then clip the solid color bows onto it.

Rosie does have some printed bows, but the bulk are solid.  I love them hung in this rainbow pattern!  Now they’re waiting and ready for us and they’re pretty.  Most of Rosie’s bows came from Bloomies Handmade.  Do y’all follow them?  They do weekly deals and 99 cent bow deals. I got all of the bright colored ones in a package that was 34 bows for $34.  Not too shabby.  We also love Forever 21 bows.  They’re super cheap and cute.

Rosie’s changing table is the same as her last nursery, but I gave the navy finish a coat of white paint.

We lost the original hardware I was still planning to use in the move, so I’m trying out different options to find one I like.  The lampshades are from Target last year and I love how they bring the peach out of the curtains.

I love this little area right inside the door.  The mirror is from my grandma (one of the people Rosie is named after).  And the bookshelf is Rosie’s favorite.  As soon as she gets in here, she crawls over and pulls nearly every single book onto the floor.  I’m telling myself it’s a wonderful thing she likes books and they can be picked up!

Little miss and I love hanging out in here these days.

And yes, Rosie somehow lost her pants during the photo shoot.  Such is life with a babe.

LOVE her room! It’s just gorgeous yet so playful and fun! Perfect for Rosie! And that bow garland is just the best! ? I wanted to know where you got the puzzle with her name! I’m looking for one for Ramsey’s birthday (ahhh it really goes by too fast!) and would love to know where you got it!

I love that you walked down the aisle to a song that was special to you, and I adore the idea of incorporating that into Rosie’s room! I walked down the aisle to a piano rendition of “Carolina on My Mind” by James Taylor, which has a ton of meaning for me and also represented meeting and starting my relationship with my husband in South Carolina. Now, every time I hear it, I get that moment of walking down the aisle back again – isn’t that such a great feeling?! This makes me want to find a way to incorporate it into my house, somehow, too!

Also, out of curiosity, do you recall the upholstery cost for that chair? I have a pair of wingbacks I’ve been considering trying to reupholster myself, but I’ve only ever done small chairs before so I’m nervous about it and am trying to compare costs for having them done professionally to see if it would be feasible. Thanks!!

Absolutely lovely, Lindsay! Perfect for a little girl but still so sophisticated. All the elements work so well together, but I think the darling mantle with the bow garland is my favorite corner.

Lindsay,

Would you mind sharing the green paint color on the walls? iT looks just perfect with the curtains. It is hard to tell if it is similar to your fireplace and kitchen cupboards. Thanks so much.

Man oh man, do I love this room! Those green walls with those curtains – I love them even more against color than I did in the old nursery, and that is saying a lot! Beautiful work, Lindsay.

Favorite nursery ever! Rosie is one lucky lil lady!!? The mantle, the curtains, the wall color, all the memories packed into this sweet room! Great job, Mama!! And can we all just take a minute to ask Target to bring back that footstool!!?? I have been wanting one so bad!~Kim

Oh my Lindsay- this room couldn’t be any more perfect. It is such a happy pretty room which fits Rosie to the tee. She is an adorable gift from God as you know. This space with the green walls, the curtains, the fireplace, and all of the details is just the bomb! I can see spending a lot of time in here just hanging out with your girl!!

Love the color and all the contrasting elements. The mantle is great! I needed something for my daughter’s bow collection, plus headbands, and I used the old metal crib spring from a crib that was my aunt’s. But the way you displayed them is even better!

She is such a doll!! I miss mine being that size. The room is gorgeous!! The window treatment fabric is just amazing! Everything is just perfect, and what a happy place to be:-)

STUNNING!! I LOVED her nursery before but that wall color…the way it pops off that fabric!! LOVE…seriously…I’ll let you in on a little secret…I am a mom to 4 – 3 birth children 20,17,13 and a 18 month old which we are adopting. We got her when she was 9 months old…YOUR Rosie’s nursery was my inspiration for her room. She was hand delivered to us from God Himself and setting up a nursery or having a baby for that matter was not on our radar. Once I saw Rosie’s nursery I knew what I wanted to do. I’ll have to send you a picture of what we chose. Take care!

Hi there! Love the green walls. I’m trying to decide if I want to use a cow hide in my nursery but I’m worried about it not being cushy enough. Do you ever regret that? Do you use a rug pad under yours? I really love the look. Thanks advance dear!

Laura, great question! I love the look, but so many times have considered adding a more cushy rug layered underneath. We’ve never had any issue, but I do think it might be nicer. Just haven’t gotten around to it 🙂

Love this!! I see you listed the fabric store as “online fabric store”. Would you mind sharing what the name of the fabric is? i just adore it, gorgeous!!!!!!
