Home DecorReal Life Home Tour March 7, 2016 I’m so excited to be joining in with Amanda’s Real Life Home Tour this week. As y’all know, I’ve been really focused on sharing real life lately. Amanda’s idea for this tour was to share our homes as they actually are every day. That means no picking up toys, no washing dishes, no vacuuming….and NO EXTRA STYLING. While I really love a pretty home and having ours clean, it’s never perfectly clean. Toys, dishes waiting to be washed, muddy puppy footprints on the floor fill our every day. For this tour, I made myself not adjust anything before snapping photos to really stay true to the idea behind this tour. I didn’t even move a pillow! We moved into this house back in the fall and have undergone huge renovations. You can catch up on what we’ve done so far here. Welcome to our Buffalo Bungalow! Right inside our front door is this little entry and mudroom area. We use this entry table as a drop zone for mail and keys. This keeps things from piling up as much on our dining table and kitchen island, though that definitely still happens. Spray paint on the table, dog bone on the floor, toy and Gracie’s food platform in the background, that’s definitely our life. Daily rides in her car are Rosie’s favorite activity, so it’s always around somewhere. When we were doing the bulk of the renovation back in the fall, we got the kitchen completely functional, but left a ton of the finishing touches to finish later. You can read the latest kitchen progress post here and I have a few new things to share that you might notice! I know I’ve said it before on Instagram, but doing dishes are my nemesis. I try to keep up with them, but 95% of the time, there are some dishes waiting to be done. I pictured this big island for food prep and serving, but it’s often a home for all sorts of things. Sometimes hardly any granite can be seen for all the stuff. But when it gets clean, ooh that makes me happy. Though Rosie’s sweet little shoes she pulled off in the car don’t bother me too much. Could they be any cuter? One of my favorite things about our home is the open concept. I love that these rooms are so open to each other. The living room is the most “finished” of any at the new house and I love spending time in here. Notice the boxes still piled up? We’re working steadily on those, but it’ll still take awhile with us still renovating and finishing up some storage options. I try to keep the living room fairly neat. So much of the house is still unfinished and not all of our stuff is unpacked yet. Having this one room more put together makes me happy, though it isn’t always easy to maintain with Rosie and Gracie. I caught Chris taking a little afternoon Sunday nap while I was snapping photos. Please don’t hate me for posting that one, honey. And notice Gracie chewing on her pillow in all these shots? Yeah, we still haven’t figured that one out yet. It gets chewed on about as much as it’s slept on. It just makes us want to kick back and relax. The fireplace is my favorite part. You can read about it here. A big thanks to Amanda for putting this tour together. It’s freeing to 07ap photos of the house and not worry about the dishes and little details. This is the first time I haven’t bought something, DIY’ed, and styled for a tour. If you look close, I’m sure you’ll see dirt and dust, but oh well. And the only reason you don’t see tons of baby toys or tuppeware lids strewn about is Miss Rosie came straight home from church and went to bed. Real and perfect don’t really go together and I’m okay with it, y’all! I can’t wait to see the other homes on the tour! Lindsay says March 9, 2016 at 12:29 pm Haha, Julia! I try to keep it fairly clean now that we have several church groups that meet here throughout the week, but there are definitely days where it piles way up. And I will say, I do not make beds every day like you shared, but it’s on my goal list! Reply

Lindsay says March 9, 2016 at 12:28 pm Courtney, you are so sweet! I definitely need to share those. I’m finally feeling so much better now and am able to devote so much more time and energy to work. I made a list today of all rooms and updates I need to share! I’m sharing an update on Rosie’s room on Monday, so that’ll be a start 🙂 Reply
Christin says March 7, 2016 at 10:14 am It’s so refreshing to see that I’m not the only one with boxes that still need to be unpacked! We have been in our house for almost 2 years and still have boxes we haven’t touched. Thank you for being bold enough to share your real life. It is way cleaner than what I would be able to share. Lindsay says March 9, 2016 at 12:27 pm Christin, I don’t even know when we’ll get all the boxes unpacked. Probably another year! Such is life 🙂 And seriously, it isn’t always as clean, but we do host several groups here a week now, so it’s forced me to keep it fairly clean. I love having it clean, but if no one was coming over, that’d be the first thing to go haha! Reply
Amy says March 7, 2016 at 10:48 am I just went and looked at all the bloggers on the tour and FINALLY, real life! It was very refreshing to see everyone’s homes and brave of you all to show it. I can imagine the pressure to have everything just-so, if you never know who is looking at your blog. I am happy not to have that pressure personally, but I really appreciate you and the other ladies “puttin’ it all out there” for us. If anything, it makes the regular person feel like we can relate better to you, and in the end, the connection is stronger. Great job – keep up the “real” good work! PS – I hope your medical issues are getting better. I haven’t seen an update in a little while. Reply
Lindsay says March 9, 2016 at 12:26 pm Amy, thank you so much for your sweet comment! I loved doing this tour and want to do more of this in the future! So often, I don’t do updates on rooms because they aren’t perfectly clean and I’m trying to kick that to the curb! And you’re so sweet to ask about my health! I’m finally feeling great and totally regulated! I’ve even lost 7 pounds from where my weight held (down to the ounce) for 7 months. I feel so joyful and grateful! Reply
Amy says March 9, 2016 at 12:29 pm That is great news!!! An answer to many prayers 🙂 Please give Gracie a big hug and kiss from me – I am always happy to see how other Dane owners deal with the unique decorating issues our breed presents! Reply
Lindsay says March 9, 2016 at 12:25 pm Awww, I miss you Amber! We really need to plan to get together soon! Reply
Lauren @ The Thinking Closet says March 7, 2016 at 1:27 pm Such a beautiful home…even MORE beautiful with “real life” goin’ on in the pics. The shot with the sippy cup and moccasins on the counter is my favorite. Always appreciate your balanced and down-to-earth perspective. Sending a hug! Reply
Jen @ The Striped House says March 7, 2016 at 5:34 pm Your house is still so tidy and clean, LOL! My dining room looks like bomb went off in Hobby Lobby 🙂 I’m so glad you were part of the series, too. Your home is beautiful! XO! Reply
Lindsay says March 9, 2016 at 12:24 pm Oh Jen, it does not look like this every day! We were gone for the weekend so that helped 🙂 But, we do host groups here a couple times a week, so it’s forced me to keep it clean. I love it clean, but it’s against my nature. And every room doesn’t look like this…I saved the office/playroom to share today and it’s disastrous! Reply
