Home Decor, KidsProgress in Rosie’s Big Girl Room September 21, 2017I’m so excited to share progress from Rosie’s Big Girl Room today! First off, friends, thank you so much for your sweet feedback on Monday’s bath reveal! We love it so much and it’s blowing our minds how well a small bath can function for our growing family. A little storage goes a long, long way when you streamline what you actually need. That’s been a process for us for sure that I’ll share in posts later, but it’s made for a freeing and fun journey! The bath reveal is the first of many room reveals to come here at The Buffalo Stone Cottage! Progress is continually happening around the house and I have tons to catch up on sharing now that we’re half-way settled, Rosie’s back in preschool a few mornings a week, and I actually have a few minutes to sit down and catch up on posts. I said on Instagram that I’d be sharing some progress in the kids’ rooms this week. I’m loving how they’re coming together! There’s still a little list to get done in each before the official reveal, but I decided to try and be better at showing progress now that life has settled some. You can see where furniture is and how the room is starting to take shape! First off, let’s take a look back at the plans for Rosie’s Big Girl Room. You can check out that full post here. Remember this room is functioning as her bedroom and a playroom of sorts since we lost that extra room in the downsize. So, we had a list of things that I really wanted to fit in here: *Big Girl Bed *Bookshelf/Bin (for books and toys) *Changing Table/Dresser for storage *Teepee *Kids Table *Kitchen We streamlined her stuff a lot to make it all fit, but those were pieces I really wanted if we could make them work. Some are clearly necessities. I really wanted to fit a chair in here because we love reading with her, but knew we could do that on the bed if we have to. I do prefer a chair, but this room is only so big! And let’s take a look back at the layout from the plans post. We tried a lot of options and this was the only one that would work and keep everything. Fitting everything in here has been a challenge, but I do like where we’re at. Alright, y’all. Let’s take a look at how she’s looking today! There’s still plenty to do that I’ll get to below, but the furniture is in and she’s starting to take shape. Those curtains against the pale pink walls (Benjamin Moore Bridal Pink) and the rug makes me so happy. I loved the mix of it in my head, but seeing it come together is exciting. I love when things look even better than you’d dreamed. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does is exciting. That teepee in the corner is already getting a ton of use. She LOVES it. I’m hoping the days of needing a changing table in her room are limited, though I’m not in a huge hurry to potty train. We’re working on it and she’s showing tons of interest. But a dresser is desperately needed in here for storage, so having it function as a changing table for now works fine. I wasn’t sure if we’d be able to fit the play kitchen in here, but I really, really wanted to. She’s always liked it, but it’s been more to store things in. She’s just now starting to actually cook food for everybody and loves it so much. So thankful we could make it work! And there’s a little tour of where we’re at today! Here’s what’s left to tackle before the room feels finished to me and an official reveal is coming your way: I’ve changed my mind a ton on what color this dresser needs to be. I initially planned olive, but then at the last minute was looking at the rug and thought, nope it needs to be blue! I got it back in the room and loved it, but once the curtains were hung, it didn’t feel right. Now, I’m considering olive again, but I’m waiting until I know for sure! I don’t want to re-paint it a third time. Does anyone recognize it from the last house? It’s the berry colored dresser from our entry! What’s funny is the berry would actually work in her room! But it was too much with the berry rug to me. Beyond that, it’s just down to the final layer: art, pillows, details! It’s so fun seeing this space coming together for our Rosie! I’m planning to officially reveal it in October, but Rosie is already loving her special space so much. And up tomorrow, I’ll be sharing progress in Dax’s room! *** That’s been The White Buffalo motto for the last three years and is still what I’m striving to do each day in our home and with our family. Yes, that often means tablescapes, inspiring interiors, and fun before and after renos. But it also means family. Faith. Joy. Struggles. Laughter. Health. You’ll find a little bit of all of that here as I share how we’re choosing to live with both style and purpose. A huge part of that is our journey toward a more natural life that’s focused on enjoying each and every moment together. A huge thanks to my main blog sponsor that makes this dream of mine possible:
Mim says September 21, 2017 at 1:23 pm Love it all and can’t wait to see the “final” reveal! Just a suggestion on paint for the dresser-Have ya thought of painting it the same green color that was used in Dax’s room? Looks like it’d tie in with Rosie’s curtains and also it’s a paint color used elsewhere in the house to keep those flowing Reply
Lindsay says September 21, 2017 at 3:42 pm Haha yes Mim! Olive green is the exact color I’m considering! You and Molly both suggesting green has confirmed maybe I’m thinking on the right track 🙂 Reply
Molly | Awfully Big Adventure says September 21, 2017 at 2:01 pm Call me crazy, but I love the blue color of the dresser! I think it speaks a lot to how defined your style is that the colors you choose can really work in any room. Green is a fun suggestion, too. Love Miss Rosie’s room and following your journey! Reply
Lindsay says September 21, 2017 at 3:42 pm Thank you, Molly! NO you’re not crazy!!! I painted it blue for this room! I just loved it more in my head than I did once it got out in the room! But I’m living with it a bit before I decide for sure…I liked the idea of choosing a theme color for the house and every room having a touch of it! But olive green, maybe really dark or lighter is what I’m tossing around… Reply
Charisse says September 22, 2017 at 11:28 am I like the blue as well. It pulls in the little bit of blue from the rug, but whatever you decide will be lovely! Reply
Austin says September 21, 2017 at 4:40 pm How funny, I totally thought the blue was intentional. Love how it pulls the blue from the rug! But I know it might be too many differing colors for a piece that big, so I’m anxious to see which direction you go! Reply
Lindsay says September 22, 2017 at 7:35 am Oh it was, Austin! I’ll update the post explaining that better. I was initially going to do olive, but then changed at the last minute to blue because of the rug! The curtains weren’t hung yet and once they were, it just feels a little off….I’m thinking olive may work better. But I’m giving it plenty of time to decide so I don’t have to repaint again 🙂 Reply
Kathy says September 21, 2017 at 4:41 pm Wow, so sweet. Time flys it seems she was tiny baby just yesterday! Adorable room for her. Reply
Lindsay says September 22, 2017 at 7:32 am Thank you so much, Kathy! I know…I look at her and think this all the time. Where has the time gone?? Everyone tells you it goes so fast, but man, it really does. Reply
AmandaKB says September 21, 2017 at 5:36 pm Just chiming in to say I also thought the blue color was intentional, and I actually really like it! Although, the suggestion for an olive green would probably be awesome, too. I love seeing the progress on these rooms 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says September 22, 2017 at 7:34 am Oh the blue was totally intentional haha! I should’ve detailed this more in the post…my initial plan was olive with the curtains. But the day I was planning to paint, I was sitting there staring at the rug and it has soooooo much blue in it and blue is my theme color for this house and I was just like, “it’s supposed to be blue.” I actually love how it turned out! But once we hung the curtains, it just doesn’t feel quite right….I think olive would fix it, but i’m going to take plenty of time to decide so I don’t have to re-paint it after haha! Reply
Anita says September 21, 2017 at 5:45 pm Oh my gosh, LOVE, LOVE her room!! What a fabulously bright and happy room. I love, also that it is not super huge. I just did my son’s room which is small and love seeing how you make this work so beautifully. Reply
Lindsay says September 22, 2017 at 7:33 am Thank you so much, Anita! Yes it definitely isn’t huge! It’s a great size for one child and it being a combined play space. I’m realizing that more and more, you can make almost any space work if you have to haha! Reply
Rachel Winchester says September 21, 2017 at 10:19 pm Oh man, Lindsay! Love seeing the progress. I like the blue color, but I can’t wait to see the dresser the olive green you are talking about. But, Rosie’s room is coming together so nicely and the color combo is perfect! Reply
Lindsay says September 22, 2017 at 7:32 am Thank you, Rachel! My gut says olive is right with the curtains, but everyone on instagram overwhelmingly wanted it to stay blue hahaha! I’m taking my time until I”m sure…I DO NOT want to paint it a third time haha! Reply
Sharon Warren says September 22, 2017 at 6:08 am I love the play kitchen…and that her room is a combination sleep, play space. Separate playrooms are over rated, and tend to become catchalls for unused clutter. Great job! Reply
Lindsay says September 22, 2017 at 7:26 am Yes, we used our playroom a TON at the last house, but then her room was hardly used at all! Reply
Carla says September 24, 2017 at 9:41 am Long-time reader, first-time commenter… I believe the first post I ever read was your Anthro Christmas Lodge home tour… I LOVE how you combine different styles! 🙂 Recently I watched your White Buffalo Story video series; thank you for being transparent and inspirational in your faith walk! Re: the green vs blue dresser decision… do you have an olive green throw, blanket or even a dress or coat that you can toss over the current blue color? I have done that many times when making a color decision. It’s a no-risk way of trying the color out… to see how my eyes and gut respond to the color before painting. I recently draped different clothes all over my sister-in-love’s family room wall and it was so helpful deciding which color to go with. We actually took the blouse that proved to be the winner to the paint store to color match. 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says September 27, 2017 at 1:38 pm Hi Carla! First off, I’m so glad you’re here!! I loved that home tour 🙂 And thank you for your sweet comments! I really appreciate your suggestion! That is a wonderful idea and I will ABSOLUTELY try that! What a great idea to live with it awhile and then decide…I do not want to repaint 🙂 Reply
Jess says November 29, 2017 at 10:28 am Love her sweet room! I was curious what the dimensions are? We are thinking about splitting a larger bedroom into two smaller rooms for our boy and girl. Thanks! Reply
Marisa Shinn says August 1, 2019 at 4:10 pm I love the blue dresser! What color blue did you use to paint it? Would love to steal this idea! Reply
Maura says December 21, 2019 at 7:49 am Absolutely love the blue dresser!!! I am painting my son’s room and would love to know what color blue you used:) Reply
