Home Decor, KidsProgress in our Boys Nursery September 22, 2017Our little boys’ nursery might just be our favorite room in this entire house. Dax just turned five months old. It’s flown and I am so excited to finally get a sweet nursery space put together for our boy. It’s really coming together and while there is still some things to do to make it officially finished, I am so obsessed with how it’s looking right now. Chris and I both say it’s our favorite room in our home. Remember, this is the feel we’re going for. You can check out the full plans post here. The challenge with this room in some ways was it’s tiny size – 7 ft. x 11 ft. But it also made it easy – there’s only one way the furniture could work to maximize the little bit of floor space. It also made it easier to streamline what went in here because only the necessities will fit! Well, we’ve moved furniture in. We’ve hung curtains. And there are even a few cute details! Here’s how his room looks today. The view from his doorway is my absolute favorite. That cute little moose is one of my most favorite things ever. It’s so sweet, so whimsical, and so fun! It’s the only thing we’ve hung so far because it’s paper mache and we were really worried it’d get damaged being stored somewhere. You may recognize some of these things from the last house! The rug was in our entry. It’s one of my favorite eBay finds EVER. The gray glider and fur stool were in Rosie’s nursery. They fit perfectly in here! The curtains against those green walls (BM Avon Green) and then with the rug makes me so happy. I just love the mix and it feels perfect for a boy to me. I’ve already gotten so many questions about these curtains and I’ve barely shared this space! My sweet mama sewed them and you can find the fabric here. We found this vintage, solid wood dresser at our new favorite vintage store, Route 276 (where we got some goodies for the bath as well). If y’all are local, run to this store. I love it so much and we got quite a few pieces for this house! Three new pieces are for the dining room that I’ll be sharing in the coming months! They have the best eye, the best stuff, and the best prices!! This dresser was around $100 (I can’t remember exactly because we bought several pieces at once, but it was right around that). It’s solid wood and the drawers work great! And we’ve spent twice that in the past for laminate pieces that fall apart after a year. I did decide to paint it so that the wood crib would stand out. I went with Rustoleum’s Winter Gray and it’s the perfect gray/blue I was picturing. I really wanted blue/gray to tie in with the rest of the house, but light enough to contrast against everything else in here. We didn’t put this space together until awhile after we moved and Dax slept in our room. But I was most excited about this space! I think because it was a nursery for my new baby, but I also just LOVED the vision I had for it so much! And seeing it come together did not disappoint. Gosh, his room has the best light in the house. I love it. There’s still plenty to do in here, though it’s really down to the details. You’ll see some things stashed under the crib I have to get to. But we’re coming along! The big thing left is hanging a lot of the artwork. This rock wall here will be filled with seascapes… And I just love that brass nautical light. I mean, I had to with the meaning of his name. I think we love his room so much because it is character central! Original beadboard ceiling, rock walls….oh to have a whole house filled with these details. But I sure am glad our boy gets to enjoy them…or I get to enjoy them while I sit and nurse him throughout the day. This wall will have some hanging bookshelves and some art. We have to install blinds and lights above the changing table (sconces on either side of the window so dresser space isn’t taken up – maximizing every surface we can in this small room). But we’re so close! And for now, I’ll just enjoy my little moose friend. This room doesn’t have a ton of extra space, but it has just enough. And I love that all of our existing furniture (and the one new piece) fit perfectly…almost like God intended this to be our house long ago… Stay tuned for a reveal of Dax’s room coming in October! *** Thatβs been The White Buffalo motto for the last three years and is still what Iβm striving to do each day in our home and with our family. Yes, that often means tablescapes, inspiring interiors, and fun before and after renos. But it also means family. Faith. Joy. Struggles. Laughter. Health. You’ll find a little bit of all of that here as I share how we’re choosing to live with both style and purpose. A huge part of that is our journey toward a more natural life that’s focused on enjoying each and every moment together. A huge thanks to my main blog sponsor that makes this dream of mine possible:
Shelly says September 22, 2017 at 10:28 am Oh my gosh, it’s so perfect already! What a lucky little guy! I hate to even say it, because it doesn’t look as though there is any other place for it, but does the crib being under that big window make you nervous? I’ll never forget being in 3rd grade and some kids playing ball outside accidentally broke one of our windows. We heard this huge crash and went into our bedroom to see broken window glass all over my bed. It scared me so much thinking what would’ve happened if I had been on my bed. So sorry to even bring that up, I’m loving seeing your progress and everything is looking so good and homey:) Reply
Lindsay says September 23, 2017 at 1:10 pm Hi Shelly! It really doesn’t π Sadly, we live on a busy street, so there are no kids playing close by….one thing I do hate, but a benefit of that is no playing near the windows haha! I so appreciate the suggestion! And we’ve measured and that’s literally the only place it can work. I know a fluke thing could happen, but a fluke could happen with so many things…praying it isn’t an issue since we don’t have other options while we’re in this little house with him in a tiny room haha! Becky in 'Bama says September 22, 2017 at 12:43 pm Along the lines of the comment above: Did you grow up in a house with boys? Seeing those pretty checked curtains hanging around/over the crib…they present a perfect climbing tool for a toddler left alone at nap time or night. I grew up with three brothers (and now have three grandsons) and any opportunity for a swinging or climbing adventure should be removed. Just saying. Toddler boys are a whole ‘nuther species – LOL – as my only-child daughter – now mother of six – is discovering. What her boys haven’t done has not been thought of. It is a very pretty room – but I’m thinking you might want to re-think the curtains on the window. p.s. – the bathroom space turned out well! Reply
Lindsay says September 23, 2017 at 1:09 pm Thank you for that suggestion, Becky! I will definitely keep it in mind! I didn’t grow up with boys, but do have three toddler nephews and climbing out of the crib or on things in their room has never been an issue – and they’re adventurous boys! I know plenty do, though! I did ask several boy moms and all suggested going floor length so that they hang down behind the crib and don’t stop right at it, so he couldn’t pull them out as easily. I’ll definitely watch it and if it becomes a problem, take them down for sure! I wish there was somewhere else to put the crib in here, but small room leaves little flexibility with layout π Reply

Lindsay says September 23, 2017 at 1:06 pm Thanks so much, Amanda!!! It’s amazing…I always saw small as a challenge before, but this showed me it’s sometimes easier to design a small space! A little goes a long way π Reply
