Home DecorOur Modern Brass Chandelier for the Dining Room December 15, 2015 Thanks for all of your sweet comments on yesterday’s post about our new farmhouse dining table! I was loving the mix of the rustic table and cowhide with the modern chairs. Today, I’m talking about our modern brass chandelier. When it came time to choose a chandelier, I had to consider a lot of design elements. I was picturing the design elements in already in this room, but I was also trying to find something that balanced well with the other light fixtures in the adjoining rooms. The tough thing with open concept can be finding light fixtures that don’t match, but that go well together. We already had our new living room chandelier, which you can see in the same view. The living room chandelier dictated several things about the dining room chandelier: 1.) Neutral Color – Because the living room chandelier is a pale, but still vibrant color, I knew the dining room chandelier needed to be neutral so it didn’t overpower this area. 2.) Modern, Clean Lines – The living room chandelier has very curvy, traditional lines. I wanted a modern, more straight-lined chandelier to balance this one so that the lines didn’t match. The other main consideration was budget. We didn’t have a lot of money to put towards this chandelier. I had a $100 giftcard to Wayfair, so I immediately went to their site hoping for a good find. I did find the living room chandelier at a thrift store, but that was a very rare find. Modern chandeliers are much harder to find there and I knew I could spend months and months searching with no luck. Finding a budget-friendly modern chandelier was initially tough. There are some AMAZING ones out there and then you look at the pricetag and run the other direction! I searched and searched, but finally came across the Colonial 12-light Chandelier from Wayfair. I was immediately drawn to the lines, but didn’t love the black color. I was really picturing brass in this area to brighten up all of the browns while staying neutral. I had a hard time finding a modern brass chandelier that was anywhere near budget-friendly. This light was $208.99, so with my $100 giftcard, this was very affordable! I used my favorite brass spray paint to liven it up a bit for our space. I’ve found that Design Master’s gold spray paint has the most realistic finish. And they have several different shades of gold, depending on what you want. It is twice the price of regular spray paint, but it’s worth it to get such a good finish. To really play up the modern, I chose round bulbs instead of traditional candelabra. I was already using clear round bulbs in the living room, so I chose the white bulbs for this room so they didn’t match exactly. I love the white bulbs on this chandelier! I bought both of the white and clear bulbs at Home Depot. A can of spray paint and some bulbs really gave this chandelier a simple, but awesome transformation! I love it in our space!
