UncategorizedOur Dining Room June 21, 2011This is our in-progress dining room: This and the living room were high on our list when we first moved in because they are what you see when you first enter our front door. So far, we have painted, hung curtains, made a new dining table, and gotten some parson’s chairs. I do love how it is starting to take shape. And, now, we’re about ready for the really fun part – finishing decorating! As you can see, the walls are very blank and we have a lot of plans for this room yet to be finished. First on the list is to board and batten the walls. I’m thinking something like this from The Nester: The bright white board and batten really brightens up this room – I love it! Our dining room feels really dark to me right now. Plus, it is open to the living room which is also this color. I think using board and batten about 3/4 of the way up the wall, while still keeping the tannish/gray paint above it, would distinguish this room while also still tying the open floor plan together. Make sense? After the board and batten goes up, we will start on the wall art! This large mirror that is currently leaning against the wall: Will be framed and hung on the wall behind the chandelier. I’m probably most excited about this part – the chandelier’s reflection in the mirror is sooo pretty. On this wall, I’m putting together a gallery wall with all different white plates: The china cabinet is going to get a coat of paint and some distressing (still deciding on color): Other things on the To Finish list: New rug (I’m thinking a neutral toned chevron rug to give the room a little pop) White slipcovers for the Parson Chairs Painting wood chairs? (the jury is still out on this one. Chris wants to leave them wood and I’m thinking about paint, but I’ve promised to leave them wood until the entire room is finished. That way, I can make a truly educated decision). Buffet and Buffet lamps – also still deciding on this one. I’m not sure if there is enough clearance and I definitely don’t want the room to look crowded. Wow…so maybe there is more to finish than I thought! For now, I will enjoy it just the way it is.

Can’t wait to see the results but I think even now it looks like a dreamy dining room in the works! Reply

Megan says June 30, 2011 at 1:41 pm I laughed my entire way through your post on the dining room. I just talked to Andrew last night about how I wanted to paint our chandelier a more neutral color instead of brass. I have been talking about board and batten on the dining room walls for MONTHS. You can see where I’m going with this. Literally everything you mentioned doing or wanting to do, I want to do as well! Yay for pictures and directions on how to do it! Thanks! Reply
