Home DecorORC Week 2 – Bedroom Layout & Befores April 13, 2016Welcome back for week 2 of the One Room Challenge! I’m finishing our new master bedroom over the next six weeks. Last week, I shared a glimpse at where we’re headed. You can read last week’s post with details on this basic mood board here. So far, no major progress on the room has been made, though things have been rounded up. Once the office & playroom is finished and revealed on Monday, I’ll move on to working more in here. This week, I decided to share a look at the whole room right now and some layout plans so that you guys can visualize it better. Fair warning, the bedroom is struggling. Remember my real life tour from a few weeks ago? Well, let’s call this Real Life Home tour Phase 2. We still don’t have our closets and clothes storage finished, so you will definitely see boxes and stacks of clothes….all a part of finishing up this room! And yes, my bedside lamp doesn’t have a bulb or shade. It’s really just being stored there while I figure things out. Now, welcome to our current bedroom… The furniture layout will stay very similar in here. The bed will remain against this wall and nightstands will go on each side. I’m hoping for matching nightstands, but am still trying to round those up. Fingers crossed for some good thrift finds! This wall behind the bed will be wallpapered in the blue floral. This table is just being stored at the end of the bed right now, but I think I might like to have a bench or something here. One of my favorite things about this room is the large window and vaulted ceiling. It makes it feel larger than it really is. I think I may stick with white curtains since there is so much color and pattern already going on in here, but we’ll see once things start coming together more. One thing I’ve really struggled with in the last few bedrooms I’ve designed has been the whole chandelier vs. fan situation. I love chandeliers and am always in favor of them. I don’t love fans so much, but this is one place that the practical side of me wins out. Neither of us can sleep well without a ceiling fan on, so it was the clear choice. There are some great modern ones out there that cost a pretty penny. But I found this all black one at Lowe’s on clearance for $50. The round bulbs instead of glass shades give it a little modern spin and makes me more okay with it in here. The new, pretty Persian will go right under the foot of the bed and then filling up some of this floor space so that you really see it. I’ll do sheepskins or something smaller down the sides of the bed. The other side of the room has the bathroom door centered. That placement doesn’t work as well for this room’s layout, but it was the only place it could work for the bathroom. I warned you about the boxes and clothes. Part of me wanted to clean them out more for these photos, but this is how we’ve been living for months since moving, so it’s a realistic before. We’re already missing our usual dresser, so I’ll compensate with a taller chest of drawers in that left corner. I’m thinking maybe a full-length mirror on the right. There isn’t clearance for a piece of furniture there with the bedroom door, sadly. And one thing I do love about having that door centered is the view of the tub and light… …that never gets old. If you missed the latest bath update post, you can check it out here. I’m excited about the new bathroom rug because it ties in well with the bedroom rug. Here’s a little layout to help you visualize the room. The room is 12’w x 14’l. It’s definitely not a huge master bedroom, but it’s just what we need. My plan is to keep the furniture pretty simple and minimal so that the room doesn’t feel too crowded. Now I’ve got to get thrifting and round up some of these furniture pieces. Oh yeah, and wallpaper the wall, make the headboard, it’s a fairly long list! But I’m so excited to see the final result. The rug did come in this week and it made me all giddy. The colors and pattern are even better in person than I’d hoped. There are so many different shades in here: peach, pink, blush, plum, mint, blue, black, navy, red, teal….the list goes on. Stay tuned for another update next week! And make sure you check out the link up on Calling it Home’s blog to see the other updates from this week. Thanks for visiting, friends!
