UncategorizedI Need an Office September 24, 2013Do y’all remember my little blogging desk? I knew it wasn’t “finished,” but the original plan was to leave this as mainly pretty, but with a computer to sit down and blog because it is right inside the front door. Well, I’m quickly realizing that I need an office. With all of the new things that have been happening around here with White Buffalo and a few things that are still in the works that’ll be happening soon, I’m just behind. I’m making lists and then losing them. I leave things out on the desk and then my husband straightens up because he’s sweet like that and they’re never seen again… I need help! While I would love a huge room filled with storage like these… {via} {via} …that just isn’t in the cards right now. I’m considering turning one of the guest bedrooms that is yet to be redone into an office, but if I went that route, it wouldn’t be until at least next summer. So, that leaves me in a predicament. While I could do without all the pretty storage options and tons of space, I do really need a way to make lists, post inspiration, make notes, etc. I need more than just a desk top with a computer on it. So, how do I turn this desk nook that is right inside the front door into an acceptable office that is still pretty? I’m not really sure, but I’m trying to figure it out. The first thing that comes to mind is adding a chalkboard. {via} And then really adding some inspiration or pin boards on the wall in front of it. {via} So, basically I have the wall in front of the desk and the desk top to work with. I probably won’t do a chalkboard wall, but I do have a large chalkboard that currently isn’t being used. I think I’ll use it and then also find a way to pin up some inspiration around it. Then, maybe better use of the desktop? An organizer for notepads, lists, etc.? Paper filer? What does a blogger need to be more efficient? I’m not sure, I just know I need it, haha… Any suggestions, fellow blogger ladies? I’m thinking I might try to tackle this project this week…because it’s not like I’ve been busy or anything 🙂

Jessica says September 26, 2013 at 2:02 pm Thanks to your post on The Handmade Home (which I have followed for a while) I just discovered your blog and am going back a little to read up on your posts. I love your desk in this post. I like that it is substantial and has a presence without being overpowering. I have a plan to build a desk in our new house as soon as the house is completed (we are living in it, but it’s not finished yet as it is 100% DIY). I am so glad I found your blog and I am going to start following your blog right now! Congrats on your new gig at The Handmade Home! : ) Reply
Lindsay says September 26, 2013 at 3:11 pm Thank you, Jessica! So glad to have you here! That desk was so easy to build! Send me a picture when you do yours – I’d love to see it. And how awesome that your renovation is 100% DIY. That’s very my thing! I’ll have to go check it out 😉 Reply
Jessica says September 26, 2013 at 6:01 pm Lindsay, we have rehabilitated a little llama barn into a 900 sf house. We have been working on it almost a year now and my father-in-law has done so much of the work all by himself. When I get frustrated that things are moving so slowly, I remind myself that this is a labor of love and that this is project is more than just a house. It’s our home. Regarding checking out my blog, I just posted a little update a few minutes ago, but thanks to a colossal computer failure, all the old updates about the progress have been eaten by the virtual gods. I will have to start posting more often again. I lost motivation when months and months worth of posts vanished. Reply
